Summary of the role
The School of Education (SoE) is one of the UK’s leading centres for educational research and teaching. 100% of the School’s research was recognised as having internationally excellent impact in the 2021 REF exercise. A recent 2023 OFSTED inspection re-affirmed GSE’s status as a strong provider of initial teacher education and training and it is currently enacting ambitious plans for the development of both its research and teaching programmes. We welcome colleagues who seek to promote and maintain a collegial working atmosphere and academically stimulating environment that will be attractive to and supportive of fellow academic and professional service staff and research students.
You will contribute to teaching in the School in areas related to the Psychology of Education (e.g. cognitive and developmental psychology, young people and mental health, special educational needs, personality and individual differences, research methods). It will support the design, delivery and production of teaching and learning material for our campus and online MSc Psychology Conversion programmes, and a wider range of online and campus postgraduate modules within Education where necessary. You will work with Dr Darren Moore and the wider MSc Psychology conversion programme team to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of a number of postgraduate teaching programmes in accord with the Faculty’s education strategy.
This role may offer the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.
About you
You will:
- Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD (or nearing completion) or equivalent in the Psychology of Education to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning
- Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
- Participate in and develop external networks, for example, to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities
- Will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching
- Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this
