Wellcome Collection is a free museum and library that aims to challenge how we all think and feel about and experience health. Through exhibitions, collections, live programming, digital, broadcast and publishing, we create opportunities for people to think deeply about the links between science, medicine, life, and art.

The Wellcome Trust is a global charitable foundation. We improve health for everyone by funding science, leading policy, and advocacy campaigns, and building partnerships.

We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health, and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate and health.

These challenges need the bold science we support, but they won’t be solved by science alone.

We are looking for an Editor to join our team on a 12-month fixed term basis (maternity cover)

Where in Wellcome will I be working?

Publishing is part of Wellcome Collection’s Public Programmes team, responsible for the museum’s lively and innovative public offer, including temporary and permanent exhibitions, live events, books, touring exhibitions and international initiatives.

We publish narrative non-fiction books on health and the human condition, working primarily with publishing partners – and as an imprint of the leading independent publisher . Our bestselling titles include How to Stay Sane in an Age of Division by Elif Shafak, Recovery by Gavin Francis, The Rules of Contagion by Adam Kucharski, Being Mortal by Atul Gawande and Forensics by Val McDermid. We are a small team working on a select list, and we are ambitious for every book we publish.

What will I be doing?

We are looking for a skilled and talented non-fiction editor with a sharp eye for detail, and a passion for narrative non-fiction.

Working primarily as a desk or project editor, you’ll be a key member of the small publishing team at Wellcome Collection, supporting authors at every stage of the publishing process on a range of non-fiction titles.

We understand that our colleagues have commitments and personal interests outside of work and we strive to build a flexible working environment, in which people can perform at their best. We are currently working 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from our Euston Road offices as part of a hybrid working pilot with the remaining 3 days from home.
