About the role:
What Car? is seeking an experienced Digital Editor to lead its digital channels, with a major focus on SEO strategy. This role will be managing a team of five.
You will be an integral member of the senior editorial team. You will be working closely with the Editor to help shape What Car?’s content and editorial direction and will be required to represent the brand internally and externally.
Key responsibilities:
Leading and developing What Car?’s editorial SEO strategy to bring its journalism to a wider audience through search engines.
Leading the daily output of What Car?’s digital channels, including social media.
Ensuring journalists are informed about the latest SEO trends and maximising opportunities to make the most of those trends.
Developing evergreen content strategies to drive traffic from search engines.
Ensuring all journalists are acting upon SEO advice.
Keeping up to date with changes in Google news and web search algorithms.
Working with the technical SEO team to scope and prioritise technical changes that will benefit our efforts.
Using analytics to measure performance in real-time, daily, weekly and monthly, and responding to that by enacting any changes necessary.
Working in collaboration with our external SEO agency, acting on their advice.
Working with the digital team on Autocar to ensure that their strategy also reflects best SEO practice.
Key skills:
Extensive knowledge of SEO and how to use data to make informed publishing decisions
Proven success in implementing SEO strategies
Strong automotive market knowledge (can be built over time)
Ability to respond well under pressure and adhere to deadlines
Experience of managing a range of stakeholders, including managing upwards
Confidence to approach desk editors with how they should be using SEO
Skilled in the use of tracking tools
Knowledge of technical SEO
