We have a fantastic new job opportunity for an Editor who has detailed knowledge of key scientific topics, including Nature, Space, Health and Earth Sciences with the ability to manage a team of Reporters / Journalists.
Working as the Science Editor you will be able to source, pitch, write and edit news and feature articles based around current affairs, health, nature, popular science, space and trending topics.
As the Science Editor you will be able to put a science spin on a major news story. The successful candidate will be able to develop stories where science intersects with news and politics.
As a successful candidate you will be responsible for ensuring high-quality coverage that is accurate, fair, and conforms to accepted standards of journalism. You will also ensure Reporters / Journalists are producing exclusive and high-quality features that enhance the brand.

Your duties as the Science Editor include:
Manage a team of Reporters / Journalists
Pitch, research and assign original stories and features
Edit copy, checking facts and sources, to ensure content meets the company’s expected quality standards
Forward planning
Write articles if required
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Detailed knowledge of key scientific topics, including nature, space, health and Earth sciences. You do not need scientific qualifications, but an eye for scientific detail is a practical necessity
Have significant experience in an editing role covering scientific topics at a reputable organisation
An interest in U.S. politics
Previous experience managing a team of Reporters / Journalists
Capable of working to tight deadlines
Ability to use social media and search platforms to identify trends and conceive original articles for an American audience
Conduct interviews and forward-plan for events
Strong understanding of digital journalism and the needs of a fast-paced newsroom
