EDI Officer

EDI Officer Bristol, England

English Heritage
Full Time Bristol, England 25152 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

English Heritage launched our EDI strategy in 2021 with the Head of EDI joining in late 2021 followed by the EDI manager at the end of 2022 and a volunteer to support with design and communications in 2023.

So far as a team, we have seen great progress with:

  • the creation of a number of new EDI networks which are open to staff and volunteers. These networks include Ethnic Diversity, Faith & Belief, Neurodivergence, Gender Specific Issues and Social Mobility. All networks have a senior manager championing them;
  • the roll out of training for staff and volunteers to choose from on the topics of menopause, neurodivergence, inclusive language and inclusive leadership;
supporting the charity to embedding EDI throughout our processes, policies and ways of working;
  • feedback from our people that they are feeling more included in the workplace and that managers are feeling more empowered to support their teams;
  • creating a team atmosphere that supports our different working styles and ensures we all have the development we need, which we role model to the wider charity.
We want to carry on this great work and fulfil our ambitious EDI strategy so are very excited to be adding three new roles to the team. These roles will all report to the EDI Manager and they are:
1. EDI Officer (this role)
2. EDI Lead: Policies and Processes (being advertised at same time)
3. EDI Lead: Communications and Engagement (also being advertised at same time)

We are flexible about where this role will be based. We are happy to support remote or hybrid working with part of your time spent in the Bristol, Swindon or York office. The expectation is that you will be often travelling to different sites. Our organisation is spread across the whole of England, and so you will need to be willing to travel to a few key sites every year as part of stakeholder engagement for pilot projects, and go to others as part of learning more about our amazing spaces and places.

We would be delighted to hear from you if you would like to talk about this role before you apply, you can do so by joining one of our webinars. In the webinars you can find out more about the team, the culture we're building and the expectations of the role. The webinars are:
8th June 11am-12pm - please follow link in candidate pack
15th June 6-7pm - please follow link in candidate pack

Everyone is welcome at English Heritage and we are always looking for people who reflect the diversity of the country today, to help us make it more relevant to the diversity of the people, communities and places we serve. From remote sites to inner city monuments, from regional teams to our Head Office, the diversity of our teams is critical to making sure our heritage is inclusive, exciting and accessible.

We continually look for new ways to promote the past in a way that is inclusive to all and that celebrates the cultural diversity of England's heritage. By joining English Heritage, you will be part of a charity that is already on an exciting journey to tell everyone's story.

You can find out more about us and what we do here, https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/about-us/ here. Meet some of our People and hear about why they enjoy working with us here https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/about-us/jobs/working-at-historic-places/.

You'll find it's a workplace like no other - taking you behind the scenes of these extraordinary sites and supporting you to share your ideas, inspire others and make a difference.

By joining us, you'll enjoy the rewards of a great team environment in inspiring locations, helping to make our sites a wonderful place to visit. You'll also be joining our charity, which through our 400+ historic monuments, buildings and sites, brings the story of England to life for over 10 million visitors each year.

Benefits include:
  • An inclusive working atmosphere where everyone from all backgrounds, religions and with different needs will be supported
  • Opportunities to go to some of our great live music or history events
  • The opportunity to progress your career within the heritage sector
  • Subscriptions to professional bodies
  • Free access to all English Heritage sites for you, another adult and up to 6 children (under 18 in the family group)
  • 25% discount in our shops and cafes
  • Enhanced Maternity/Paternity/Shared Parental leave
  • 25 days' holiday plus Bank Holidays pro rata rising to 28 days after 3 years
  • Flexible hours
  • A number of EDI networks that you are able to join as either a member or ally. These networks include Ethnic Diversity, Faith & Belief, Social Mobility, LGBTQ+, Neurodivergence and Gender Specific Issues.
Interviews will be held between 29th June and 11th July 2023 on Microsoft Teams.
