English Heritage launched our EDI strategy in 2021 with the Head of EDI joining in late 2021 followed by the EDI manager at the end of 2022 and a volunteer to support with design and communications in 2023.
So far as a team, we have seen great progress with:
- the creation of a number of new EDI networks which are open to staff and volunteers. These networks include Ethnic Diversity, Faith & Belief, Neurodivergence, Gender Specific Issues and Social Mobility. All networks have a senior manager championing them;
- the roll out of training for staff and volunteers to choose from on the topics of menopause, neurodivergence, inclusive language and inclusive leadership;
- feedback from our people that they are feeling more included in the workplace and that managers are feeling more empowered to support their teams;
- creating a team atmosphere that supports our different working styles and ensures we all have the development we need, which we role model to the wider charity.

We are flexible about where this role will be based. We are happy to support remote or hybrid working with part of your time spent in the Bristol, Swindon or York office. The expectation is that you will be often travelling to different sites. Our organisation is spread across the whole of England, and so you will need to be willing to travel to a few key sites every year as part of stakeholder engagement for pilot projects, and go to others as part of learning more about our amazing spaces and places.
