Job description
An exciting role within Operational Support department for a Dog Handler (Constable).
The role will include force wide patrol, with emphasis being placed upon supporting BCU’s to fight crime; and providing responsive and visible policing, preventing crime and working with partners.
You will ensure trust and legitimacy and supporting our people, and visit stations and attend briefings to promote the department, and actively encouraging officers to consider utilising the dog section.
Initially all handlers will have a GPD dog and will be given an additional working dog once they are established in their role. This will be based on necessity and capability.
Please note that the position will be reviewed in line with the end of their current GPD’s dog working life, or sooner if deemed necessary by the trainer and line managers. Also, additional working dogs may be re handled.
The must haves
- You must have completed your probationary period.
- Must be a standard Driver and up to date with all Driving Assessments.
- You must have a can do, a positive, inquisitive mindset and adopt a continuous improvement approach.
- You will also be forward thinking, professional and committed to the forces values.

For part time hours the salary will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, this is based on the number of hours for the vacancy.
