Job Description
About the role:
The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Director will help evolve, influence, implement and drive the strategic Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) agenda in our UK business, as well as in support of our teams in India and the US. As a thought-leader, you’ll paint a picture of the future of DE&I, bringing new thinking and a fresh approach whilst building on existing successes and strengths.
Reporting to the Chief People and Places Officer, working closely with our Executive and Board directors independently and representing the organisation externally with government, at conferences and in the media.
A unique opportunity to be part of one of the biggest transformations in UK Financial Services, crafting a critical agenda, at a critical moment, that can help Lloyds Banking Group further embed diversity, equity and inclusion into the DNA of the organisation to benefit our colleagues, customers and communities.
What you’ll be doing:
The next chapter in DE&I is about sustaining all the good work and taking it to the next level. The remit is broad and will take a view on the agenda for colleagues, communities, and customers, as well as our supply chain collaborating and inspiring different parts of the organisation to adopt and embed DE&I in all we do. Areas of focus:
  • Stand back review of DE&I in LBG, setting an evolved 2030 ambition and plan, revisiting the 2025 staging post.
  • Creating the next chapter of thought leadership collaborating internally and externally to find the innovation that supports our purpose ambition and shape finance as a force for good.
  • Engaging the new GEC, SLT, Board & networks in a ‘big’ conversation about DE&I and how it can make valuable contributions in LBG in the short, medium and long term.
  • Working with the teams in the Customer, Community & Supply Chain space and looking for opportunities to collaborate to ensure all touchpoints re-enforce our ambition.
  • Collaborating across People and Places to build DE&I into the fabric of the plans and approach, shaping an agenda that works for different parts of LBG, from our trading floor, to branches to tech and data teams, in the UK, across all regions, US and India
  • Partnering with Group Corporate Affairs to ensure we have an exciting and groundbreaking approach to internal and external communications on DE&I
  • Mobilising the 20,000 people involved in the colleague networks to support the LBG culture change, working collaboratively with the network chairs.
  • Listening to and working with our 9,000-line managers to look to understand what DE&I means for them and how we help them live inclusion with their teams every day and increase the diversity and equity in LBG.
  • Revisit the DE&I targets for 2030, and 2025, reviewing the approach to ensure we are delivering the right outcomes.
  • Taking a global view on DE&I and ensuring we embrace a global mindset in our approach.
  • Continuous horizon scanning of the external environment to ensure the LBG’s responsible business/transformation, social impact and inclusion and diversity strategy is relevant and ambitious.
  • Representing LBG externally in government, high profile speaking events and press.
What we need from you:
A lot! It’s a wonderful opportunity.
You will have a combination of deep DE&I expertise and will be recognised as a world class authority and communicator, with a warm and collaborative style, who can enable change at pace in a commercial environment.
  • A strong background in providing effective, strategic leadership having devised and delivered an innovative DE&I agenda in a complex, sizeable, organisation in the number one role.
  • Global experience of DE&I, at least in India and US, clearly with a proven track record of real impact in the UK, understanding the appropriate language and legal frameworks in these countries.
  • Has built a strategic multi-year plan and then shown evidence of driving annual delivery, handling the different stakeholders on the way pretty independently.
  • Externally confident, credible, with experience with government, on the big stage and with media.
  • You will be an outstanding communicator who can influence and gain respect internally and externally with any audience.
  • You will be the connector who works across organisational boundaries, networks, leaders, and key external influencers.
  • Super judgement at dealing with the complexity of DE&I in a changing world with different views and perspectives that need to be balanced on highly sensitive subjects.
  • Numerate, commercially orientated, and able to focus on targets and data.
  • An excellent team leader, building a successful team that role models the values and aspirations of DE&I.

Getting this right is at the heart of our purpose to Help Britain Prosper.
We especially welcome applications from under-represented groups. We're disability confident. So, if you’d like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.
