KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Managing all dispensary staff members including staff cover when required, liaising with Pharmacists for staff rotas and holidays
- Assisting the Superintendent pharmacist with the recruitment of dispensary staff
- Assuming responsibility for training of both new and existing staff, organising participation in external courses and encouraging further qualifications
- Working alongside the Superintendent Pharmacist to conduct appraisals and discipline dispensary staff when required
- Attending and contributing to regular branch meetings
- Maintaining stock at a reasonable working level and ensuring stock rotation
- Keeping up to date with drug tariff changes and acting on them when necessary, adjusting dispensary stock according to prescribing habits and market changes to avoid loss of income, liaising with local GPs and Dispensary Accounts Manager
- Sorting prescriptions, checking endorsements, submitting prescriptions monthly for reimbursement, completing FP34D and vaccine appendix. Correcting returned prescriptions. Uploading all data onto MYS.
- Taking responsibility for invoices, payment and statements, and following up outstanding credits and credit notes from returns
- Assisting with the annual stock take
- Be willing to provide NHS Health checks after sufficient training. • Train to administer vaccinations
- Overseeing accuracy and efficiency of dispensing staff
- Taking prescription requests and issuing repeat prescriptions to patients according to agreed time-scales and directions of authorising GP or prescribing nurse
- Collecting prescription charges and ensuring that all relevant paperwork, including the declaration on the reverse of the FP10, is completed and signed by the patient
- Cashing up prescription charges, till and credit card machine. • Handling returned medication from patients and dealing with uncollected prescriptions
- Adhering to practice policies for controlled drugs • Disposing of all returned and expired drugs and controlled drugs according to protocols
- Taking informed and appropriate action should any drug alert bulletins be received
- Communicating effectively using email, telephone and face-to-face regarding all enquiries from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, hospices and suppliers
- Liaising with members of clinical staff regarding the medication of individual patients
