Director, Technical Design Authority (TDA)
Role Summary
The Technical Design Authority (TDA) team, known previously as the Design Engineering team, provides the technical ownership and governance of solutions sold to GTT clients whilst in the delivery phase.
The TDA team works closely with Product, Network Architecture, Network Engineering, Solution’s Team (Sales Engineering), Project Management, Technical Management, Network Provisioning & Service Assurance to ensure that client solutions are designed, deployed and implemented per client expectations. Included in this workflow is a seamless handover following the Pilot / POC acceptance into the rollout phase of project deployment, where the Network Provisioning will deliver the remaining services, although TDA stays as the technical owner until the delivery is completed.
The Director, TDA is to demonstrate the GTT employee values of Curious, Collaborative, Committed and Consistent at all times, as well as be customer first in their approach, a key component of GTT2.0. The TDA Director is the focal point for technical design activities with our sales colleagues and sales engineering contacts and is responsible to deliver the company values in alignment with the points above.
Main Responsibilities
The Director, TDA will be responsible for managing the global TDA team. They will work for SVP Service Delivery and will have a number of direct reports, some of which may have their own teams. The make-up and size of these direct and indirect reports will be reviews and agreed at time to time by the SVP Service Delivery.
The Director, TDA will work closely with the Service Delivery Teams, regional Sales Teams and Regional Operational teams to ensure that all aspects of technical client experience as aligned and that TDA resources are deployed in alignment with the other regional teams.
Key responsibilities will be:
  • Ensuring all technical commitments made during the sales process are credible, valid and delivered by the Global Service Delivery teams.
  • Build and manage a global TDA team that will be committed to delivering on the goals of the clients and GTTs Credo.
  • Minimize GTT’s commercial risk and exposure on all projects.
  • Ensure that Global TDA team effectively manage technical change, scope creep, risk management and all other aspects required to deliver successful technical outcomes.
  • Liaise with clients and ensure deliverables are met throughout the project lifecycle
  • Build relationships within the sales management structure to facilitate the successful delivery of projects.
  • Create global strategy for the TDA team that will allow a single global process for this function to thrive whilst building in resilience to the regional (EU and US) teams by supporting each other as workloads require. Strategy is to contain forward looking view that will drive benefit to GTT in terms of efficiency that can be calculated in commercial benefit i.e. greater profit margin.
  • By exception work support the Solution team community to provide support to explain technical aspects of service delivery elements, allowing bids to be responded to at the level of detail needed.
  • Ensure that the TDA effort that fall under Professional Service function are costed and included in the relevant bid proposals.
  • Business travel to participate in customer meetings and flexibility of working hours.
  • Minimize GTT’s commercial and legal risk and exposure on all technical aspects of projects during the sales phase.
  • Point of escalation for TDA taking ownership and being accountable
  • Maintain product-specific knowledge and minimize skills gap via knowledge sharing and training

Candidate Experience:
  • 5+ years’ experience managing technical resources to meet critical project deliverables in fast-paced dynamic work environment.
  • Evidence of ability to manage C: suite interactions with Clients, Vendors, Partners and other internal GTT departments.
  • Excellent matrix management and ability to build strong cross-departmental relationships
  • Additional business qualifications and language skills would be considered a benefit.
  • Multi-platform design, implementation and support experience
  • Demonstrated expertise with data, security and voice services
  • Multi-protocol data network support experience with a strong knowledge of routing and switching
  • Demonstrated ability to perform service testing (iPerf, RFC2544, Y.1564 & RFC6349)
  • Operative knowledge of the ensuing communication technologies:
    • VPN technologies (SD-WAN, MPLS, IPSec, GRE, TLS)
    • SDN and NFV technologies
    • Wireless Technologies (802.11)
    • LTE/3/4/5G Technologies
    • Broadband (xDSL, Cable, EoC and Fiber)
Qualifications/Courses:
  • A Bachelor’s degree, or higher, or significant experience from a telecoms background.
  • ITIL qualifications desirable.
  • Industry standard Network & Security Certifications (Managed Data & Security focused on present-day technologies)
