- Propose and establish Group Indirect Tax management strategy and policy for Europe as based on the Group business development strategic plan
- Monitor and manage Indirect Tax legislation developments across Europe and advising the business and Finance teams thereof. Co-lead with Tax Compliance function to drive adoption of necessary process changes to ensure compliance
- Supporting the Brambles Legal department and BU’s in discussions and lobbying with the EU, European governments, tax authorities and regulatory organisations
- Establish and maintain relationship with relevant business units to ensure timely communications regarding any transactions that may have tax compliance consequences
- Provide practical and commercially orientated indirect tax advice (including VAT and /or customs duties) on projects and transactions across Europe
- Work cross-functionally with commercial stakeholders, finance, treasury, legal teams, and external advisers to ensure the Group's VAT profile is fully considered when implementing tax planning and other business initiatives
- Work with customer services, masterdata, credit management and customers to resolve invoice disputes concerning VAT; direct contact with major customers to agree the VAT treatment to be applied to CHEP invoices
- Conduct tax training session with various stakeholders as and when required
- Providing support and advice on any VAT, customs duties, Green tax and Plastic Packaging tax compliance issues and propose solutions and process improvements in Europe
- Provide strategic design advisory of indirect tax functionality for Brambles’ next-generation ERP implementation
- Conduct indirect tax health checks, Identify and manage indirect tax risk within the business and develop mitigation guidance
- Assist with the review and maintenance of the Indirect Tax compliance process and provide tax data statistic and analysis
- Seek continuous improvements in the operation of indirect taxes compliance and reporting processes
- Identify tax risks and opportunities within indirect tax area, develop action plans and proactively work with stakeholders to achieve positive mitigation and risk management
- Provide strategic advice and support to 8th and 13th Directives VAT refund processes across Europe and monitor foreign VAT claims & refunds is in place to optimise cash flow.
- Take responsibility for all dealings with the tax authorities, including correspondence and negotiations, for indirect taxes, Manage Indirect Tax controversies including audits and notices in the Europe region
- Ensure provisions in the areas of indirect taxes are properly calculated and disclosed in the statutory accounts & FCA returns, if appropriate, considering known tax exposures
- University Graduate degree
- Qualified in a professional Accountancy Qualification - ACA / ATT / CTA qualified or qualified by experience in the relevant profession or HM Revenue & Customs
- Min 8/10 years of robust Indirect Tax experience in a large multinational company
- Big 4 is an advantage
- Indirect tax experience of cross-border transactions
- Experience of working with / providing advice on VAT set-up in major ERP system; knowledge of SAP will be desirable
- Strong knowledge and understanding of European VAT rules and emerging indirect tax compliance requirements, e.g., plastic packaging tax
- Good working knowledge of European import trade and customs processes
- Knowledge of indirect tax accounting and tax reporting
- Confident and assertive with the ability to build rapport and effectively communicate with people at all levels
- Proactive, strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Determined to go the extra mile to achieve results
- Drive to take ownership and responsibility for own work and operate independently, with the ability to also demonstrate great teamwork
- Proven ability to work in a fast-moving finance environment is essential
- Strong analytical skills and possessing a “Passion” for Indirect Tax with the ability to drill back to the source of the transaction
- Superior communication skills both written and oral
- Work independently with minimal supervision under tight timelines
- Highly computer literate, with excellent Excel skills and keen attention to detail
- English is essential
- Knowledge in one of the following languages is desirable: French / German / Spanish / Italian
