Job description

X Energy, LLC is seeking a Project Director to support the deployment of its first-of-a kind Generation IV high temperature gas cooled reactors, the Xe-100. The primary function of the Xe-100 high-temperature gas reactor is to produce clean, carbon-free electricity or high-temperature process steam. The key objective is to develop a design that has advantages in sustainability, economics, reliability, and safety relative to current day power generation units.

This position is responsible for the successful execution and completion of major projects by managing project teams and activities, coordination of resources, ensuring schedule deadlines are met and budgets adhered to, and ensuring the quality of the project and client satisfaction. Also responsible for maintaining healthy business relationships with customers, overseeing the creation of project milestones and objectives aligned to customer requirements, and coordination of internal teams who are executing the schedule. This role directs implementation of the scope of the project, including accountabilities for deliverables, performance measurement, budget, and achieving success criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the project plan based on X-energy business goals and objectives.
  • Meet regularly with customer organizations and serve as the main point of contact for technical, programmatic, and quality issues.
  • Oversee the execution of the work scope reporting, deliverables, milestones, schedule, and estimated budget to be assigned to X-energy departments, subcontractors, and partners; negotiate with those organizations to document and agree to final scope, deliverables, cost, and timeline.
  • Monitor performance of subcontractors, partners, and internal teams working on the execution of the project plan and schedule to ensure efforts are being completed as contractually agreed to and aligned to customer requirements.
  • Measure progress and performance through techniques such as, but not limited to, earned value, schedule slack, cost reserve management, schedule margin management, deliverable quality, etc.
  • Determine corrective actions for those that do not meet deliverables/scope/performance requirements, including re-allocation of work to others, termination of efforts, or allocation of additions/new resources to oversee and/or perform the work.
  • Define deliverable acceptability; communicate this through process control, interface, and performance documentation (specifications); and determine acceptability of deliverables based on acceptance criteria.
  • Decision maker on all project approaches based on technical, quality, schedule, and cost factors.
  • Actively support the safety culture and ensure integration of quality in all relevant processes by complying with the requirements of the Quality Assurance Program.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

Minimum Education/Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, physics, or related technical discipline is required. MS/MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience is required.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a customer relation type of role is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in successful management of multi-disciplinary technical and project development efforts in the nuclear industry, from concept through construction and system test is required.
  • Demonstrated effective technical and leadership skills, including management of technical programs, personnel management, and staffing is required.
  • 8 plus years’ experience working as a Project Engineer/Manager on projects in the $25M-50M/year range required.
  • 5 plus years’ experience as a Program Manager or Director on projects/programs in the $100-400M/year range is preferred.
  • Experience in the business development processes as a proposal manager, or pursuit lead is preferred.
  • Experience working under nuclear regulatory codes or another strict QA program (e.g., NQA-1, N299, ISO-9001).
  • Strong knowledge of project controls techniques – work package planning, baseline development, change control, and financial management is required.
  • Experience in effective implementation of risk management techniques to manage project risks is preferred.
  • Experience with/exposure to advanced nuclear reactor technologies is preferred.
  • PMP Certification or equivalent demonstrated experience in project management skills is preferred.
  • Experience in successful management of multi-disciplinary, large technical and project design engineering development efforts in the nuclear industry, from concept through construction and system test is preferred.
  • Experience in effective implementation of risk management techniques to manage a production engineering environment is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of project controls techniques – work package planning, baseline development, change control, and financial management is required.

Location: Rockville, MD; Gulf Coast, TX
Work Site Expectations: Will work primarily at sites in Rockville, MD and TX. A hybrid schedule with some remote work is possible.
Travel Expectations: up to 75% to sites in TX
Status: Full-time, Exempt
Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri
