Our work environment includes: Modern office setting Food provided Job Summary: The role of the Director of Music is to provide oversight, direction, and coordination of all musical elements of worship. The Director of Music serves as piano/keyboard accompanist for the Worship Choir, Praise Team, and Soloists for Worship Service and rehearsals. Leads/directs the Worship Choir and Praise Team. This position administratively report to the Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) and functionally reports to the Pastor. This position directly supervises the Church Musician. Essential Functions: Worship Design: Serve on the Worship Design Team which, in collaboration with the Pastor, designs a worship experience that supports and enhances the message of the week. Help plan special services and events, including but not limited to Thanksgiving, Christmas, Holy Week and Easter. Blend contemporary and traditional styles of worship music to accommodate a wide range of worship styles, using both old and new songs. Work with Pastor and Worship Design Team to identify creative ways to enhance the message. Discern/select anthems, hymns, service music and praise sets to inspire the congregation’s worship of God. Musical Accompanist: Provide piano and/or keyboard accompaniment during weekly Worship Services (organ playing is a plus). Provide accompaniment during special services including, but not limited to, Christmas, Holy Week Services and Easter. Accompany the Worship Choir and Praise Team on piano or keyboard during weekly rehearsals for each group. Rehearsals run 60-90 minutes. Have all musical material prepared in advance of each rehearsal/performance. Practice Time: The accompanist should spend the time needed to practice all music to a high level of accuracy. Choir Direction: Select and teach appropriate songs, anthems, hymns, and choral arrangements that best utilizes available vocal talents. Direct weekly rehearsals with the Worship Choir and Praise Team. Administration: By Tuesday of each week, submit all music titles to the office for inclusion in the Sunday bulletin. Coordinate special music schedule of soloists, instrumentalists, and guest musicians. Select and purchase all needed music, equipment, and instruments, as well as all-related resources in music and worship. Purchases will be withdrawn from the annual Worship Committee Budget with any overage to come before the Church Council for approval. Oversee maintenance of the music library, materials and supplies, musical instruments, and equipment involved in the music ministry Adhere to lawful guidelines applicable to the use of copyrighted material. Schedule the tuning of the organ and piano. Arrange for and prepare substitute pianist for specific services and vacation time Accountability: The Director of Music/Church Musician will be accountable to SPRC and the Pastor. This individual will notify SPRC and the Pastor a minimum of fourteen (14) calendar days prior to planned absences (preferably as soon as known) to allow the scheduling of a substitute for choir direction. This excludes personal and family emergencies. An annual performance review will be done by SPRC in the Fall of each year in preparation for the annual budget.
