YOUNG PERSONS SUPPORT WORKER
Providing emotional and practical support to individuals and their families who struggle to live independently because of mental health and emotional difficulties. All our clients live within shared supported living houses.
You will work with individuals with physical, mental or learning difficulties and also forensic clients who have had some involvement through the criminal justice system. We provide support where required within any legal framework that may be in place as well as risk management.
Working in the supported living houses managed by East Cheshire Housing The main aim of a Support Worker is to help clients to learn to live as independently as possible by identifying and supporting them in their particular areas of need.

SALARY
Typically, for this role, our Support Workers start on a salary of Circ. £21,730. Working towards a managerial capacity you could expect to earn in excess of £26,000 pa.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assessing the practical and emotional needs of a client and drawing up a care plan.
· Providing emotional support by talking to clients and listening to their problems and concerns.
· Assisting with domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, washing and shopping.
· Helping clients to budget and handle money.
· Helping clients participate in leisure activities.
· Advising clients on practical issues.
· Helping clients apply for disability grants and other financial benefits.
· Making case notes and administration duties as required by management.
· Helping clients with life skills.
· Liaising with families.
· Attending meetings and training courses with colleagues.
QUALIFICATIONS
There are no specific qualifications required for this role but NVQ's in Health and Social Care would be advantageous.

· An interest in people and a commitment to helping others.
· An ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with vulnerable people and their families.
· A knowledge of the emotional and practical difficulties a client may face.
· Good listening skills.
· The ability to gain the trust of clients and their families and to build good relationships with vulnerable people.
· An ability to carry out practical and domestic duties.
· Good leadership skills.
· Good problem solving skills.
· An organised and flexible approach to the job.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· A willingness to keep up to date with changing standards and codes of conduct within the social care sector.
· Time management skills and the ability to meet the needs of several clients at the same time.
· A high level of patience and emotional resilience.
· A non-judgemental attitude regardless of our clients needs or situation.
· An ability to communicate with other healthcare and social work professionals.
· Good written communication skills.
· Basic IT skills.
· A respect for client confidentiality.
EXPERIENCE
Experience supporting young people is advantageous but not essential.
