Job description
NCS carrries out specialist digitisation of very vulnerable manuscripts, photographs and other archives as an integral part of a conservation treatment workstream. The post-holder will work alongside qualified Conservators who specify the nature of conservation treatment programmes and the nature and means of capturing images of items and their output. The post-holder will be trained to handle vulnerable items under the camera and to contribute to evaluating the safest and most appropriate procedures, developing a full understanding of software for capture, file naming methodologies and file format outputs and digital storage for customers. The post-holder will contribute and advise when appropriate on technical and software developments to improve the service over time. When trained fully the post-holder will be asked, if required, to assist Conservators in visiting customers' archives and museums to assess digitisation project demands and costs.
The core hours are 22, to be worked by agreement across the week. There will be opportunities for extra hours, Saturday-working projects and development towards a senior responsibility within the team.
