As the UK’s regulator for the energy industry, Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household in the UK can rely on a safe and environmentally sustainable energy supply.
To help us achieve this, we administer environmental and social programmes for government, which focus on renewable heat, renewable electricity, energy efficiency and fuel poverty.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our environmental and social programmes as a Digital Communications Manager
- help tell the story of how Ofgem works to protect energy consumers and deliver environment schemes and social programmes on behalf of government
- take a user first approach to content development and customer journeys
- convey complex information, writing simply and clearly, with the user in mind
- publish content on our digital channels to agreed deadlines, using content design principles.
- provide specialist digital communications support to colleagues in Delivery and Schemes.

- reviewing, writing, editing and publishing digital content
- supporting communications campaigns
- collaborating with colleagues to ensure content development meets editorial standards and aligns with business objectives and user needs
- supporting content transformation on ofgem.gov.uk
- developing your content design skills
What we need from you
- excellent copywriting and proofreading skills
- experience coordinating varied and complex content requirements
- experience using content management systems
- analytical skills that can identify trends and create actionable insight

Ideally, you will have experience working in government communications, with a good understanding of social media and integrated communications campaigns.

Job description

We are playing a vital part in accelerating the transition to Net Zero and a carbon neutral energy system – a goal that everyone wants to achieve.
As Digital Communications Manager you will get the chance to develop high quality content that helps to achieve our aims. The successful candidate will work with the Digital Communications team and colleagues in Delivery and Schemes and across the organisation to transform and iterate our website content using content design principles, advocating for user-focused approach to content development. You will also support colleagues with specific campaigns and other content for scheme users and stakeholders such as guidance documents and newsletters.
As Digital Communications Manager you will be:
- a skilled content editor with excellent attention to detail. You will know how to write simply and clearly, with the user in mind.
- a content designer, working on high profile online content, making sure it supports other channels including social media.
- responsible for the timely delivery and quality of content in support of campaigns and business objectives.
- working collaboratively with communications colleagues to deliver communications campaigns, ensuring digital channels are used to full potential.
- providing specialist digital communications support to colleagues in Delivery and Schemes, from planning to delivery.
- passionate about using evidence, data and research to make content decisions.
You will need to deliver your expertise with genuine enthusiasm and an attention to detail that enables colleagues to better understand the diverse needs of our users and improve user experience on our website. Operate a Flexible Resourcing model. Longer term, you may have the opportunity to work flexibly across Ofgem supporting on a range of projects or may have a longer deployment within a team where you have in-demand specialist skills, knowledge, and expertise.
Person specification
- Ability to interpret complex content and convert into clear understandable messaging which helps users achieve their goals and supports wider communications. (LEAD)
- Experience of using social media, email and other communication channels, integrating content as part of wider campaigns (LEAD)
- Experience of delivering content that adheres to a content strategy in support of organisation business goals and user needs, using a content management system.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work calmly even when faced with fast-paced, high-pressure situations.
- Strong analytical skills, converting data to insight with the ability to report in various formats.
- Ability to challenge constructively, using data to support your position, whilst being able to compromise where appropriate to create effective content which meets the interests of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Understanding of Agile methodology.
- Experience of working in government communications, or on GOV.UK, adhering to Government Digital Service (GDS) design principles.
