What you'll be doing:

Part Time Registered Dietitian

Up to £17,000 for 3 days (24 hours) per week.

We're currently recruiting a dedicated Dietician to help ensure the smooth running of the operations in Healthcare on a part time basis, contracted to 24 hours per week.

After undertaking a comprehensive induction and training program the following will be undertaken by the successful applicant. He or she will be fully supported by the Patient Catering team and the Central Dietitians to undertake the following

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diet Kitchen, Therapeutic Diets and General Dietetic Service
  • Please note giving therapeutic dietary advice to patients will not form part of the post holder’s responsibilities. Any requests for dietary information should be referred to the appropriate Trust Dietitian
  • Supervising and monitoring the diet kitchen protocols and production (ensuring agreed policies and procedures are being adhered to). Refer concerns upwards to the Patient Catering Manager and/or Central Dietitians
  • Ensure accurate and timely distribution of additional snacks from the diet kitchen
  • In conjunction with the Patient Catering team, ensure that therapeutic menus are distributed to patients in a timely fashion, ensuring that all record keeping is kept up-to-date and confidentiality policies are adhered to at all times
  • Support the Patient Catering team in the development and implementation of new catering and special diets policies and procedures where required
  • Work with the Patient Catering team and Stores team to ensure that the special diet products required are made available for patients. Work with the relevant stakeholders to ensure robust systems are in place if special diet products are not available and substitutions need to be made
  • Work with the Stores team, Kitchen Manager and Diet Chef to ensure that the twice-annual nursery menu is implemented correctly and on time
  • Liaise with the Nursery Manager to ensure that any new referrals for nursery children on special diets are accounted for (special diet nursery meals are produced by the diet kitchen)
  • Support the Central Dietitians with liaising with key KCH stakeholders and organising menu tastings and menu review meetings for the Companies main bi-annual menu changes
  • Update all ward materials and dietetic resource drives twice-annually when the main patient menu changes happen
  • Communicate and feedback to the relevant stakeholders any issues relating to the catering service, and work with them to action plan changes where required
  • Support projects related to the provision of the catering service, as appropriate, alongside the relevant stakeholders
  • Communicate relevant issues, where appropriate, with the Trust Dietitian(s) and liaise closely with the Trust’s Dietitians on all catering/dietetic issues
  • Training
  • Deliver special diet and nutrition training sessions to front line catering teams, diet chefs, pick and pack teams etc. when required
  • Understanding their own training needs and working with the Patient Catering team and the Central Dietitians to ensure these ongoing needs are met by undertaking some continuous professional development
  • Audits
  • Review and audit delivery systems for special diet meals and snacks and recommend improvements where appropriate
  • Visit patients on the wards to gather feedback on food quality and overall adequacy of patient meals including therapeutic diets and snacks. Produce reports and recommend changes where appropriate
  • Participate in audits and initiatives where appropriate including PLACE and those pertaining to Hospital Food Standards
  • Review and audit food waste
  • Staff and Visitor Dining
  • With direction from the Central Dietitians, support the implementation of Compass healthy eating directives for staff and visitor catering
  • Organise the relevant educational materials, displays and theme days in the staff catering facilities for both national and local events
  • Ensure regular and appropriate restaurant customer involvement via questionnaire, structured interviews etc.
  • Development activities
  • Participate in the staff Performance Review scheme as an appraisee and be responsible for complying with your agreed personal development programmes to meet required knowledge and competency goals
  • Link to the main Nutrition and Dietetic department, building positive relationships and supporting their needs. For example, participating in meetings and workstreams and taking part in training and learning activities where deemed appropriate such as conducting catering inductions with new Trust Dietitians
  • To be responsible for maintaining own competency to practice through CPD activities, and maintain a portfolio which reflects personal development and satisfies the requirements of the British Dietetic Association
  • Compliance with Trust and National operational procedures and guidance
  • To keep statistics and written records of all patient contacts in accordance with Trust and departmental standards for record keeping
  • To comply with professional codes of practice, professional guidelines, and departmental policies
  • To carry out good office practice in accordance with policies and procedures
  • To maintain strict confidentiality of patients records in accordance with Trust policy, the Health Care Professions Council Code of Practice and the Data Protection act 1984
  • To understand the Equal Opportunities policy and provide a fair and non-biased service
  • To understand the Health & Safety policy and be aware of personal responsibilities
  • Contribution to service continuity
  • To undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade as requested by your line manager
