There is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Associate to join a dynamic, motivated team of renal nurses who deliver a high standard of specialist care to outpatients attending for kidney dialysis treatment.
You will be working in a friendly and supportive environment and will be supported and trained under the supervision of our experienced renal team.
We currently have 24 stations running 3 shifts a day (07:00 – midnight) Monday to Saturdays. The unit is closed on Sundays.
Applicants will work a mix of shifts including short and long days and twilight shifts.
We also have haemodialysis units at Royal Liverpool, Warrington, Halton, and St Helens hospitals and there may be occasions when you will be asked to support at one of these clinics.
Applicants should hold either the Assistant Practitioner diploma (Level 5 Health and Social Care) or Nursing Associate Foundation Degree.
We also welcome applications from individuals wishing to become an Apprentice Assistant Practitioner. Applicants for the Apprentice Assistant Practitioner must have completed the Level 3 Health & Social care Diploma (or equivalent) and hold either GCSE Maths and English or foundation Maths and English.
Applicants will have worked in a hospital setting for a minimum of 12 months and have experience in acute patient care.

The Dialysis Assistant will function at a high level of competency. They will have responsibility for actively participating as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with supervision from a registered nurse, in providing holistic renal replacement therapy to patients attending for kidney dialysis treatment.

Deliver therapeutic renal replacement therapy to patients as required within set protocols and within the scope of the Dialysis Assistant remit.
Perform patient assessment (under supervision and after appropriate delegation from the registered practitioner), plan and deliver high standards of care.
Develop, implement and evaluate individual care plans, utilising models, protocols, practical and theoretical knowledge.
Perform area specific clinical competencies to enhance the delivery of patient care. Initiate renal replacement therapies as appropriate to patients individual needs
Evaluate and assess patient’s vascular access for dialysis.
Maintain vascular access during and concluding renal replacement therapy. Observe for signs of infection and report to the registered nurse or appropriate medical team. Ensure relevant information is documented.
Recognise the need for referral and undertake referrals to vascular access nurse and dieticians when required.
Be responsible for setting specified parameters on dialysis machine, utilising mechanical infusion pump devices.
