The role …
We're looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to support the growing, complex application infrastructure within our dedicated vehicle telematics business, Radius Telematics.
Radius Telematics track 12 billion miles of travel annually, with 600,000 tracked assets throughout the world. A range of platforms support this portfolio of tracked assets and the terabytes of data that it generates.
As DevOps Engineer you will report into the Telematics CTO and support the deployment, automation, configuration, scaling and monitoring of our application portfolio.
The role is based from our head office in Crewe, Cheshire, with plenty of remote working flexibility available.
What would your day to day look like?
Typical work activities include:
Build automation- Deployment Automation through IAC
- Test infrastructure deployment & scaling
- Application configuration
- Migrating applications to HA configurations
- Database deployment
- Load testing and capacity planning
- Application monitoring
- Incident investigation
What do we expect of you?
The essential skills/attributes are: -
A background in automating application deployment and configuration management- Knowledge of IAC technologies such as Cloudformation or Terraform
- Strong Linux Sysadmin skills
- Good knowledge of containerisation and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Good knowledge of internet communication concepts and protocols - TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP
- Experience of deploying Continuous Integration solutions
- An awareness of security considerations in web application deployment
- Monitoring / Logging aka ELK, Prometheus / Grafana etc
- Strong AWS knowledge – EC2, EKS, RDS, Aurora, networking, cost management
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated – working to brief with limited supervision
- Creative in applying new technology to build innovative solutions
The desirable skills – any of the following would be advantageous: -
Experience of Postgres and Mysql administration and replication- Monitoring / Logging aka ELK, Prometheus / Grafana etc
- Strong understanding of SDLC (Software development lifecycle)
- Factor app knowledge
- Knowledge of common web servers - Nginx, Apache
- Working knowledge of SSL certificate deployment, config hardening and domain registration
- Experience of running non-trivial applications on AWS
- Familiarity with Python application deployment - WSGI, PIP, VirtualEnv
- Scripting Skills - Bash, Python
- Experience with load testing and scaling applications
