Job description
A DevOps Engineer fulfills the following responsibilities with little to moderate guidance of more senior team members:
- Take ownership of stories; Implement and test features based on the requirements.
- Provide feedback on requirements from a technical perspective and provide estimates for user stories and tasks.
- Provide input into technical design, at the story and/or module level.
- Comply with coding standards.
- Experience developing pipelines for ingestion of data from various sources
- Collaborate with build and release engineers to prepare packages and solve environment issues.
- Investigate and find the root cause for software problems reported by clients.
- Maintain technical documents
- Demonstrate robust debugging, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- For basic DevOps skills, a 4-year degree with a focus on Engineering, Data Processing, or Computer Science is necessary.
- The candidate needs solid experience in server-side DevOps, both in a Windows Server environment, and in a Linux environment. AWS experience is essential. GCP experience is a plus.
- Our server applications are written in C, C++, C#, and Python. Exposure to these languages, and the types of error messages they generate, is mandatory
- Our client-side front-ends are written in react.js; DevOps on the client-side will not be part of every-day tasks, but familiarity with this type of application is a plus
- We use both SQL and no-SQL database systems; knowledge of data base management operations is a necessity
- Expertise in data science is not needed, but some prior exposure to the concepts of Machine Learning are required. Self-paced on-line courses are acceptable for that.
- Demonstrated experience in reading log files, and reacting to events, is mandatory. Some exposure to modern ideas re Software Telemetry is a plus
- Standard work hours are the norm, but on occasions (fatal errors and system stoppages) you will get an alert, at any hour, and must be prepared to respond quickly.
