A Senior Design Engineer Reporting to the Overhead Line (OHL) Engineering Group Head and working within Project Teams will be responsible for developing and delivering engineering solutions from feasibility to detailed engineering design for transmission networks projects (132kV and above).



Responsible for projects of high value and complexity within the project portfolio whilst supervising and developing others within the department or project team. This will include providing the necessary engineering design specifications, effective technical support, advice, coaching whilst considering innovation, and input throughout the lifecycle of a portfolio of projects.



Additionally as Senior Design Engineer you will liaise across multi-disciplinary engineering teams to provide end to end integrated solutions.



What you’ll be doing
You will create and develop design specifications to assist with the delivery of major Network projects. Lead the technical aspects of OHL systems and all other associated equipment, including recommend construction and outage programmes where required in relation to OHL circuits.

Drive resolution of statutory, land or other consents regarding OHL routes.



Responsible for providing technical assessment of tender submissions and reporting recommendations to client.



Define OHL equipment requirements for input to the System Construction Authorisation (SCA), Project Technical Specifications and BETTA documentation.



Ensure specifications, OHL system designs, equipment and construction practices are in accordance with current legislation, policies and operational requirements.



Provide support for the technical resolution of site / construction OHL issues, analyse common faults and prevent re-occurrence.



Preparation of project quality documentation following all SP energy network and client quality processes and provide and meet deliverables for PQP’s.



Contribute to training needs assessment for new products or similar and the development and delivery of technical, operational and safety packages for such products


What you’ll bring
You will have proven experience in a position of responsibility, and strong knowledge of transmission network overhead line, and associated equipment, engineering.



You will have good inter-personal and communication skills and be able to effectively form relationships with other individuals, departments and businesses. Furthermore, you will use these skills to represent departments and/or project teams regarding OHL engineering issues, decisions, standards, or industry best practice.



You will have the ability to implement, apply and promote CDM and Health & Safety best practice within a design environment.



Minimum Criteria

  • Engineering degree or HND/HNC with 5 years industry experience.
  • Proven significant experience in delivering engineering solutions and designs for high value and complex transmission OHL projects
  • Proven abilities regarding:
  • Communicating with, and influencing, senior managers.
  • Writing clear and concise reports and documents covering technical subjects.
