Job title: Design Engineer

Salary Range: £45,000 to £50,000 per annum

Overtime: Time and ½ after 37.5 hours

Hours: 37.5-hour week

Location: Telford

Permanent role working for a leading prime Defence design and manufacturing client.

A Design Engineer is required with knowledge and experience 3D CAD tools, specifically Siemens NX or equivalent with the ability to understand and analyse a wide variety of engineering issues. Knowledge and familiarity with a range of manufacturing techniques, materials and the product development process along with design, development or evaluation within complex engineering fields such in the automotive, aerospace, nuclear or the wider defence industry such as military armoured land vehicles.

Candidates with d esign, integration and evaluation of crew survivability systems for armoured vehicles experience along with CAD, PLM tools such as Teamcenter, SAP data management tool , FEA, CFD or other modelling and simulation capabilities - Ansys, LS Dyna, MATLAB would be well received.

Due to expansion the client based in Telford requires a dynamic, leading Design Engineer on a permanent basis. As a Design Engineer you will be required to:

• Generate of design specifications and / or design schemes; including CAD models, assemblies and drafting 2D drawings for concept and detail designs of mechanical systems.
• Work with the wider Survivability team to turn ideas and concepts into workable, manufacturable designs for prototyping and integration.
• Provide calculations as required to justify a proposed course of action such as tolerance analysis and stress calculations to support concept and detail design.
• Produce engineering solutions and technical data packs to company standards to satisfy the technical requirements of a contract.
• Produce specifications and designs, which simultaneously fulfil the contractual requirements and contribute to cost-effective design.
• Work with other teams such as Operations, particularly during the prototype phase to ensure that improvements, changes and feedback are incorporated into the maturing designs
• Ensure that designs produced consider the following in conjunction with other Subject Matter Experts:
  • Product Design safety
  • Design for manufacture, assembly, dis-assembly and end of life processing
  • Design to cost
  • Design for reliability and maintainability

The Design Engineer s hould have the following skills, experience and qualifications:

• Proficient at using 3D CAD tools, specifically Siemens NX or equivalent
• The ability to understand and analyse a wide variety of engineering issues, apply problem solving skills and propose innovative yet realistic solutions whilst retaining an attention to detail.
• Knowledge and familiarity with a range of manufacturing techniques, materials and the product development process.
• Experience of at least one of the following would be highly desirable:
  • Design, development or evaluation within complex engineering fields such in the automotive, aerospace, nuclear or the wider defence industry.
  • Design of military armoured land vehicles.
  • Design, integration and evaluation of crew survivability systems for armoured vehicles.
• Desirable to have experience of FEA, CFD or other modelling and simulation capabilities - Ansys, LS Dyna, MATLAB etc.
• Competence with Microsoft applications, CAD PLM tools such as Teamcenter and knowledge of a SAP data management tool
• Good written and verbal presentation skills.
• Degree level of education, or an equivalent level of competence with appropriate training and significant proven engineering experience
• Ability to hold UK SC security clearance or higher
