Job Title: Seat Design Engineer (SDE)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Pay: $104,541/year - $120,000/year

Summary

The Seat Design Engineer (SDE) is responsible for supporting Lead Engineers and/or senior level Engineers in the research, design, and substantiation of the mechanical seat design within the Seat Engineering department utilizing established modeling and drafting standards. The position will support design and development of engineering packages based on customer and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) requirements for production, retrofit applications and product development.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following with other duties as assigned:

Perform design and drafting assignments in CATIA V5 or higher (or equivalent) using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with established internal, OEM, and SAE Seat Design Standards and Requirements with minimum supervision. Assigned design and drafting tasks include but are not limited to: commercial aircraft seat mechanical design, mechanical seat installations, detailed assemblies and seat mechanical specifications. Designs can be for components/assemblies manufactured from metal parts, plastic parts or composite materials. Work under the direction of the lead engineer to design, maintain or modify mechanical seat assemblies or components based on defined requirements using approved processes and tools. Participate in design teams to support the development of designs. Support the documentation of design implementation. Obtain, interpret, and analyze Airbus, Boeing, or other OEM aircraft types seat install or layout drawings using approved processes and tools. Working in aircraft coordinate systems and interpreting interface documents (ICD). Provide liaison support for assigned duties to manufacturing and/or in-service issues. Troubleshoot mechanical seat systems problems. Actively support engineering department goals and initiatives. Coordinate and communicate effectively with other departments like supply chain, and manufacturing departments, as well as Seat and/or Aircraft Modification Engineering, as necessary to achieve design to cost and design for manufacturability. Mostly related to the procurement or manufacturability of designed components/assemblies using metals, plastics or composite materials. Utilize internal drawing/document standards per customer or regulatory agency requirements including ASME Y14.5. Perform engineering design checks and sign documents with minimum supervision from lead. Perform engineering design analysis (such as preliminary Stress analysis or Kinematics Analysis), design validation (such as validate analysis models against test data) and task scope (such as work scope validation). Perform engineering design/analysis with minimum technical guidance.


Qualifications/Requirements

The minimum requirements for this position are a bachelor’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related engineering field, and a minimum of 4 years of experience in each of the following: Designing and drafting in CATIA V5 or higher, or equivalent. Applying knowledge of Airbus, Boeing, or other OEM aircraft types, as well as knowledge of SAE Seat Design Standards and Requirements to develop lay-outs and program design studies for aircraft seats. Coordinating with supply chain, and manufacturing departments, as well as Seat and/or Aircraft Modification Engineering. Collaborating with other engineers as part of a design team. Designing parts and assemblies for composite, metal and plastic manufacturing processes. All experience may be gained concurrently.
