Main purpose
To support current solar projects in the production of 2d drawings in Autocad. It would also be advantageous if the Solar Design Engineer had previous experience in a 3d capacity. Where 3d is required, suitable training would be given. Prepares and maintains detailed design drawings, schematics computer-aided design software. Works closely with design originators (e.g., engineers, designers) to resolve design details or discrepancies or to prepare drawings of which require a high degree of precision.
The Solar Design Engineer would be expected to have some experience in electrical cable routing, detailing cable containment and ducting/trench detail and electrical plan layouts and site layouts with respect to Solar projects (roof and ground mounted). Experience of solar car canopy and floating solar advantageous.
The Solar Design Engineer must be prepared to work out of the office if required on occasions although the work is considered to be hybrid working with attendance if required to suitable nearest offices (Windsor/Stockport).
Key Accountabilities
- Capable of working to procedures. Both Client and CBS.
- Ensure that drawings are produced quickly and accurately in a consistent format with the minimum of supervision.
- Capable of high competency using Autocad in 2d (3d advantageous).
- Capable of fitting in to a dept. that is dynamic that has high expectations of meeting targets.
- Ability to attend site when required to take down survey data and transform into CAD drawings.
- Interpret mark-ups by project personnel and produce clear drawings.
- Capable of producing Electrical drawings including single line diagrams (HV & LV), block cable diagrams, cable schedules, electrical equipment layouts including civil details, solar PV plant layouts, ballast layouts, pilling drawings, cable containment/ducting/trench drawings and planning drawings in 2d format.
- Have previously used electrical design package EPLAN advantageous.
- Lighting design (subject to confirmation).
Specific competencies:
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction and installation project management with a minimum of 5 years’ experience working on projects. Experience working within many other areas of engineering design not just solar PV would be advantageous. Ability to handle solar design software. Knowledge of plant layout, cable design, solar frame design (roof and ground). EPLAN experience advantageous.
Attention to detail: Ability to apply a thorough approach to each stage of the design process from concept to detail design.
Cross-functional communication: Ability to communicate across all levels and have the ability to converse and collaborate across all internal and external teams of varying technical or commercial bias to enable a successful outcome.
Safety in Design: Able to comply with CDM 2015 regulations and contribute towards design safety reviews and design risk assessments.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- CAD Designer within the renewables industry, or within similar industries such as Building Services. Must have in excess of 5 years’ experience.
- ONC/HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
