At Enable Design, a Junior Design Civil Engineer works in many sectors including railway, highways, renewables, and utilities and uses their technical knowledge to design, build and maintain the nation’s infrastructure systems. They are expected to work within a multifunctional design consultancy and engineering services team.
The Engineer shall perform a variety of functions in scoping & producing designs in addition to assisting with construction works and feasibility reports as required. Carrying surveys on site and providing a site presence will be a regular requirement.
The Engineer shall perform a variety of design activities working with both 2D and 3D design, including checking of design deliverables including drawings and associated assisting documents. The Engineer will also lead in creating libraries, coordinating and implementing data from Network Rail 3D model and liaising with the engineering team to develop the design. Other duties to be performed as assigned.

General responsibilities
- Implement the project requirements to fully meet client specification with relevant standards.
- Undertake any work of a technical nature that falls within ability and competence.
- Prepare design calculations, drawing and documents.
- Carry out site visits and surveys, inspections and supervise sub-contractors.
- Prepare feasibility studies, inspection, assessment, and technical reports ensuring compliance with Enable’s procedures.
- Keep up to date with industry best practice and apply this within a team environment.
- Compliance with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, particularly CDM regulations will cover two main areas, Survey & Design. Duties for these three areas are outlined below.
- Have completed a relevant Degree or Masters level qualification in Civil Engineering
- 1-2 years experience in civils Design or site engineering
- Passion to develop your civil engineering knowledge in to a design related industry
- Interest in being on site and conducting surveys
- Experience of working with design software, such AutoCAD 2D & 3D, MicroStation
- To be a flexible and innovative self-starter who brings a curious mindset to finding solutions for real-world problems
- Not essential - Experience of working in a design capacity around rail & civil engineer projects.
- You must have the permanent right to work in the UK.
Undertake a range of site surveys including Topographical, Laser (Lidar) and GPR.
Setting Out of new assets on-site using Total Stations and GNSS.
Provide a presence from Enable Design on site during available access, be it weekdays, weeknight, and all weekend. This requires the need of a full driving licence.
Develop complex and detailed designs for projects. This requires thorough understanding of the latest Civil Engineering practices and advancements working to all relevant standards to designs are compliant. It also requires the use of complicated programmes to produce these designs.
Project Management & Construction - Working alongside in house Project Managers, you will need to manage the cost, programme, quality delivery either throughout the design process or on site whilst always considering and ensuring Health and Safety is at the forefront of everything.
