MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support for Pupils:
Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement.
Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom.
Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities.
Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance.
Use specialist (curricular/learning) skills/training/experience to support pupils.
Management of the Bridge programme
Develop and review programmes of workshops to provide support for students with metal health, wellbeing and behavioural issues.
To plan and deliver alongside The Bridge Co-ordinator the personal development, PSHE and workshops within the provision.
Refer pupils to external mental health and wellbeing provisions and feedback to pastoral teams.
Lead and be responsible for implementing support from the Welfare Team
Liaise with year teams and the SENCO regarding Higher needs funding.
Attend and support EHA meetings for students within the Bridge Provision.
Lead the team and line manage staff in The Bridge
Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports, as required, on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence.
Be responsible for keeping and updating records, contributing to reviews of systems/records as requested
Promote positive values, attitudes and good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encourage pupils to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents/carers as agreed with the teacher within your role/responsibility and participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents, or as directed.
Oversee the management of programme and attend parental review meetings.
Support for the Cirriculum
Undertake structured and agreed learning activities / teaching programmes, adjusting activities according to pupil responses.
Support and over-see the completing of English, Maths, Science and supporting students where appropriate.
Prepare, maintain and use equipment / resources required to meet the lesson plans / relevant learning activity and assist pupils
Support for the School
Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.
Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school.
Appreciate and support the role of other professionals.
Attend and participate in relevant meetings as required.
Participate in training and other learning activities and performance development (including first aid certificate) as required.
Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times, including before and after school.
Accompany teaching staff and pupils on visits, trips and out of school activities as required and take responsibility for a group
Role within SEND Department
To ensure compliance with the SEN Code of Practice
Support the SENCo to lead and motivate a highly effective team, particularly through their personal example, clearly led departmental meetings and thoughtful delegation and deployment.
Support the SENCo in parental meeting reviews of the department as per communication tree.
Support the SENCO to effectively allocate support to children with an EHCP dependent on need and requirements as set out in their plan by creating and monitoring bespoke support provisions
Oversee the deployment of Teaching Assistants and cover in the department.
Supporting the SENDco to: Prepare quality APDR’s for students in The Bridge, monitor APDR delivery across the whole school curriculum and monitor the review of APDRS on a ½ termly basis.
Supporting the SENDCo in effective liaison with teachers, parents and outside agencies including, Educational Psychologists, Therapists, Doctors and Social Services to support the SENCo to ensure; relationships with parents are based on partnership working, students with special education needs receive the support they need, Annual Reviews are well organized, professionally conducted and the actions are documented, disseminated and quickly put into place.
Wellbeing
Ensure all pupils have equal access to learning using appropriate strategies and resources, where necessary.
Liaise with pastoral staff members to ensure the wellbeing of pupils and their full participation in school life.
Raise any concerns regarding pupils’ behaviour with the relevant Raising Standards Lead.
Implement any specific arrangements for individual pupils, ensuring that relevant staff members are aware of the measures in place.
Provide individual pastoral support to pupils, where necessary.
Continuously motivate and challenge pupils, whilst promoting and reinforcing self-esteem.
Safeguarding
To have the ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.
Appreciate the significance of safeguarding and interprets this accurately for all individual children and young people whatever their life circumstances.
To have a good understanding of the safeguarding agenda and can demonstrate an ability to contribute towards a safe environment.
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice and information in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.
Variation Clause
This job description will be reviewed and updated periodically in order to ensure that it relates to the job performed or to incorporate any proposed changes. This procedure will be conducted by the Headteacher or line manager in consultation with the post-holder. In these circumstances it will be the aim to reach agreement on reasonable changes but if agreement is not possible management reserves the right to make changes to the job description following consultation.
