This is an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Qualified or Trainee Dental Nurse based at our practice in Whitehawk, Brighton - East Sussex. For qualified applicants, a Head Nurse position may be available for the right candidate. Trainee applicants do not need any previous experience to apply for this position, just enthusiasm, motivation, and dedication to your training! Experienced trainees are also encouraged to apply.

As a Dental Nurse, your day-to-day duties will be keeping the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy, and sterile in line with the practice’s health and safety and infection control policies and procedures. Some reception cover may also be required and is encouraged.

Full training will be provided for the following duties and more:

  • Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order
  • Provide chairside assistance to the clinicians, ensuring that the correct equipment is available
  • Ensure the care and welfare of patients
  • Accurately complete patient clinical records as directed
  • Complete and maintain all required evidence logs within the practice
  • Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety policies
  • Learn and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, infection control, waste disposal etc
  • Develop and file radiographs
  • Complete laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted
  • Ensure adequate stocks of materials and other items within the surgery
  • (If appropriate) Order new stock supplies as necessary
  • Liaise with reception and other team members to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records
  • Attend and participate in practice meetings
  • Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the practice
  • Undergo training as required to maintain and develop skills and abilities
  • Act in accordance with the company rules and code of conduct
  • Work at other practice locations from time to time as required

Decontamination duties:

  • Maintain communication between the decontamination room, surgery, and reception.
  • Follow practice policy and protocols for moving instruments between the surgeries and the decontamination room.
  • Ensuring clean and dirty zones remain separate areas and the processes within decontamination are carried out in the correct zones.
  • Handling and disposal of all hazardous waste, clinical waste and recycling correctly, following practice protocols.
  • Cleaning, disinfection, inspection, wrapping, sterilisation, labelling and storage of dental equipment and instruments.
  • Ensuring the decontamination room is kept, clean and the surfaces do not get cluttered.
  • Ensure daily and weekly checks and tests are carried out on all decontamination equipment, following practice protocols.
  • Immediately report any faults or errors on the cycles of the decontamination equipment in the decontamination room to the Lead Nurse or Practice Manager

Requirements:

  • Advanced DBS clearance (provided by the company)
  • Proof of right to work in UK (If not a UK citizen)
  • 2 professional references (one from current employer)
  • Photo ID/Proof of residence x 2
  • First dose of HEP B vaccination (can be completed on starting)

Qualified Applicants:

  • GDC Registration
  • Evidence of Hep B Immunity
  • Evidence of completed CPD
