Porter - Epsom
We are looking for caring and flexible porters to make a real difference to our patients and their families.
We are looking for new team members to help keep our hospitals running efficiently while improving patient experiences. While physically challenging at times this role allows post holders to make a really difference.
Please note that this role will require candidates to work evening, nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job
- Transfers patients within all areas of the Trust using the correct equipment i.e. wheelchairs, trolleys and beds
- Transfers medical gas cylinders across the Trust as required including the changing of cylinders at ward level and various medical gas manifolds. Additionally, responsible for the receipt and correct storage of cylinders whilst ensuring the security, cleanliness and tidiness of all medical gases storage areas.
- Transfers deceased patients to the Mortuary and conducts the necessary mortuary procedures and protocols including assisting senior nursing staff in facilitating the viewing of deceased patients out of hours.
- Delivery and collection of specimens and pharmacy stock as required to include the delivery of bulk I.V. Fluids to the ward.
- Collection and correct disposal of clinical, domestic and recycling waste in line with Trust policies and procedures whilst ensuring the security, cleanliness and tidiness of all external waste handling / storage areas, some of which may be hazardous.
- Collection / delivery of x-rays and or medical notes to/from any location within the hospital.
- Collection / delivery of equipment and furniture to / from any location within the hospital. Undertakes any ad-hoc duties as directed by the supervision and management team.
- Carries out a visual risk assessment of trolleys and wheel chairs prior to use and sanitises using designated equipment as required.

St Helier Hospital is home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children, while Epsom Hospital is home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). Both Epsom and St Helier hospitals have Accident and Emergency departments (A&E) and Maternity services (Obstetrics).
With nearly 900,000 people coming to our hospitals for care and treatment every year, our almost 5,000 staff and 500 volunteers work around the clock to keep our busy hospitals running smoothly.
