Job Description Delivery Driver
Reporting to Branch Manager
Purpose Transporting goods and products from one location to another ensuring that they reach their destination safely and in a timely manner. Following a route plan from our logistics team, our delivery drivers will have a hand in loading, driving, delivering (including manual offloading when required), collecting customer service and vehicle maintenance.
Responsibilities Principal Accountabilities
- Delivering goods: The primary responsibility of a delivery driver is to transport goods from our Aylesbury branch to designated locations. This involves carefully loading the goods onto the delivery vehicle and ensuring their safe and timely delivery. (You may be required to collect from other
EWI Store branches as required)
- Adhering to schedules: Delivery drivers must adhere to delivery schedules and timelines, ensuring that deliveries are made in a timely manner. Punctuality is essential to meet customer expectations and maintain efficient operations.
- Vehicle maintenance: Delivery drivers are typically responsible for the basic maintenance of their delivery vehicles. They should regularly check the vehicle's condition, including tire pressure, brakes, lights, and fluid levels, and report any issues to the relevant department or supervisor.
- Record-keeping: Delivery drivers are often required to maintain accurate records of their deliveries. This may include obtaining signatures or using our handheld electronic proof of delivery systems via photos. Accurate record- keeping is important for tracking deliveries, resolving any disputes or issues, and ensuring efficient documentation.
- Customer service: Delivery drivers often interact with customers when making deliveries. They should provide friendly and professional service, answer customer inquiries, and handle any concerns or complaints promptly and courteously.
- Adapting to special requirements: Delivery drivers may encounter special delivery requirements, such as handling fragile or perishable items, obtaining specific documentation, or following specific delivery instructions. They should be
adaptable and ensure that these requirements are met appropriately.
- Health and safety compliance: Delivery drivers should follow health and safety protocols to ensure their own safety and the safety of others. This may include using appropriate personal protective equipment, lifting and handling goods safely, and reporting any safety concerns or incidents.
- Manual Off-loading of goods: Whilst every effort is made to ensure a customer will be on site to meet a delivery driver this sometimes this does not happen and goods need to be offloaded by the driver.
- Communication: Delivery drivers must be adept at using the telephone to communicate with customers and the office alike. There may be occurrences where a customer required an estimated time of arrival and you will be required to advise the customer in a timely manner.
Other Duties
- Assisting in the warehouse during times of staffing shortages.
- Ensuring the vehicle remains clean and tidy, inside and out.
