About us
Our Aim is to promote kindness and to prevent cruelty to animals by all lawful means. As a branch of the RSPCA we run independently as a small local charity; this means we are responsible for raising our own funds to help animals in our area. We raise funds through a variety of channels, the main one being our network of shops and Ebay operation. Each year we work with hundreds of animals, rescuing and finding loving and responsible homes.
About the role
You will need to have a full clean driving licence and be able to drive a large transit van; be competent in a wide range of basic maintenance, repairs and DIY activities; able to safety lift, move and load heavy furniture; able to deal professionally with members of the public; able to multi task and manage a very busy and diverse workload. You will be the type of person who instinctively knows what needs to be done and proactively gets on and does it.
Job Description
Title: Delivery driver and maintenance assistant
Working hours: 22.5 hours per week (excluding daily 30 minute break), either 8.30am to 4.30pm or 9am to 5pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Responsibilities:
· To collect and deliver in a safe manner, furniture items donated by or sold to members of the public
· To assess items of furniture being offered for donation and their suitability for sale
· To move items between sites, and carry out other driving / transport duties as required
· To carry out regular maintenance, repairs and DIY activities as required, including basic plumbing and electrical work; installation, removal and repair of shop fittings, flooring etc; PAT testing (training will be provided)
· Remove waste from branch sites and dispose of the waste at an approved waste transfer station in the approved manner
· Prepare and deliver shop sundry orders, manage sundry stock levels and advise when reordering is required
· To carry out daily and weekly maintenance checks of vehicle ensuring it is roadworthy at all times and kept clean and in good condition
· Purchase items as requested in line with branch purchasing guidelines
Administrative duties
· Keep accurate records of all mileages in the van on a daily basis
· Keep accurate records of all maintenance / safety checks on the vehicle
· Keep accurate records of all waste transported from branch sites to approved waste transfer stations
· To sign up Gift Aid donors for donations of goods collected for branch shops
General
· At all times represent the branch and the Society in a professional manner
· Assist with other relevant activities as required such as assisting with stock takes, occasionally transporting animals to and from the vet, accompanying external tradespeople and suppliers whilst on site
Experience required
· Basic maintenance and repairs including plumbing and electrical work and general DIY activities
· Driving a large transit van
· Lifting, loading and moving large and heavy items in a safe and careful manner
· Customer service, dealing with members of the public in a professional manner
· Well organised, able to manage a diverse and busy workload
· A full clean driving
