Nursery Manager (Job Share)

Little Lattons Nursery, Riddings Lane, Harlow, Essex, CM18 7HT

Salary: £30,000 - £36,000

Competitive salary dependent on experience.

*£3k retention allowance *subject to successfully completing a probation period

Hours: 40 hours a week with 30 days paid holiday including national bank holidays, which includes a whole week break over Christmas.

Little Lattons Nursery are seeking to appoint a nursery manager who is passionate about inspiring and leading a team to deliver outstanding care and education to children, and want to be part of a high performing nursery management team. Ideal candidates would have strong leadership and communication skills with a commitment to helping children thrive, motivating them to play, learn and grow by providing them with the best start in life. Applicants must have previous experience of leading a nursery team to deliver exceptional care to all children in the setting through a warm and positive approach with lots of creative ideas.

Essential requirements:

· Early years education and care qualification to at least NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, with preference for degree qualified practitioners

· Experience in a Nursery manager capacity

· A solid understanding of child protection/safeguarding issues and procedures.

· Enhanced DBS check

· Understanding of special educational needs and equality of opportunity

· Paediatric first-aid and food hygiene trained

· Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally

· Competent PC user (word processing, spreadsheets, emails)

· Through your inspirational leadership drive employee engagement, retention, and performance in the nursery

· Role model and mentor your nursery team to ensure the highest quality early childhood practice and experience for all children, including children with special education needs and/or disabilities

· Holding responsibility for the day to day running of the nursery and management of safeguarding and child protection policies - monitoring and improving practice and behaviours that underpin our high performance safety culture

· Engage with the Local Authority to understand the local offer, to support practice in all areas of the nursery

· Builds an effective parent engagement strategy, creating links between home and the setting.

· Compliance with all regulatory requirements

Job Description for Nursery Manager

Reports to: Head of School

Job Purpose

The purpose of the Nursery Manager is to bring their expertise and experience to provide excellent support and teaching to our children. In this role you are the key person in managing the experience of children and their parents. You will have a welcoming and warm manner and build confidence in our families. The Nursery Manager must be passionate about helping children to love learning and feel secure in a warm and inclusive environment.

Main responsibilities:

  • To deliver and ensure a high standard of learning, development and care for children aged 0-5 years
  • To manage the day to day activities of the setting
  • To ensure that the nursery is a safe environment for children, staff and others
  • To developing partnerships with parents/carers to increase involvement in their child’s development
  • To manage other staff within the nursery
  • To be responsible for any tasks delegated by the Head of School

Main activities:

  • Overall day to day management responsibility for the preschool nursery
  • To be responsible for the efficient running of the preschool nursery and overall delivery of a high-quality service
  • To ensure that the preschool nursery provides a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors, at all times
  • To ensure that the preschool nursery plans an appropriate play based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress
  • To ensure the preschool nursery meets Ofsted requirements at all times
  • To manage, supervise and support the preschool nursery staff
  • To undertake and assign designated officer roles, including safeguarding
  • To work with other professionals in the local area for the benefit of children and families
  • To ensure all staff understand and work to preschool nursery policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies
  • Take responsibility for planning, which ensures each child is working towards the early learning goals
  • To organise and participate in the key person system
  • To conduct staff appraisals and supervisions as appropriate and to identify staff training
  • To ensure all records are properly maintained in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Trust
  • To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement
  • To work in partnership with senior management to update and review the self-evaluation and improvement plans
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the preschool aims and objectives
  • To support the wellbeing of all children and staff
  • To maintain staff ratios and manage staff deployment to ensure staff holidays and absences are covered at all times
  • To help, support and implement new initiatives at the nursery setting
  • Support the development of good practice with regards to special needs and inclusion
  • Manage the day-to-day operation in order to ensure the health and safety of the children, their parents and carers, the team and any visitors to the nursery
  • Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures
