The Business - Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) is then team behind the cloud. CO+I is responsible for delivering Microsoft web portals, live and online services around the world including infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability. Within CO + I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft's cloud business. The Microsoft portfolio consists of complex multidisciplinary, large-scale multi- year datacenter construction and lease projects. We're looking for a passionate, high energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world's largest online services.
The Senior Director of Datacenter Engineering shall provide engineering and construction leadership expertise to internal and external resources for the delivery of IT capacity for greenfield, brownfield, retrofit and lease delivery projects in the EMEA region.
Responsibilities
- Effective management of multiple projects (hundreds of megawatts) in a region as part of the core team launching the Microsoft cloud and AI infrastructure in EMEA
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills in technical land due diligence engineering and construction management of large-scale projects greater than 250 megawatts
- Deliver projects to the Microsoft core priorities of safety, quality, on time and at cost competitive rates
- Oversee the delivery of multiple, concurrent complete datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes schedules and budgets of the projects and manage a team of architects engineers and designers
- Serve as the technical leader sharing industry expertise and strategic insight in datacenter design and delivery
- Act as a subject matter expert and provides strategic guidance when defining the multiple program goals and prioritization
People Management:
- Reporting to the DCE Regional Partner, provide team leadership, project delivery, cross group problem solving and collaboration, contract negotiations, supplier relationships, scope/schedule/budget, and management reporting
- Manage delivery success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching and caring
- Facilitate regular meetings with team to set direction and align priorities, develop accountabilities and crucial business program initiatives to facilitate team success
- Work cross functionally with multiple stakeholders to deliver; Continually improve Microsoft's overall design approach and overall program
- Accountable for team hiring, growing and managing the organization; Specifically the candidate will manage a team of design managers who are responsible for regions and projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent
- Chartered or registered professional engineer
- Proven experience running design engineering and/or construction teams
- Engineering and or construction contract negotiations
- Knowledge and understanding of local building codes regulations and jurisdictional standards
- High level of proficiency in commercial and industrial architecture and engineering with a primary focus on datacenter design
- Extensive experience in delivering engineering and construction infrastructure projects
- Strong experience in engineering leadership or construction management role
- Good experience in datacenter infrastructure design
- Large scale infrastructure project experience ($100 million or more per project) delivering Design Build / EPC / EPCM / Design Bid Build projects
- Work well with others; high integrity focus on fairness during conflict resolution
- Be a person of integrity, be methodical, detail-oriented with strong work ethic
- Sharp written and verbal communication skills and excellent attention to detail
- Ability to get things done in fast-paced environment, not easily discouraged and open minded
- Able to travel domestically and internationally
