Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Scientist/Database Administrator to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in both data science and database administration, with a focus on working with both Government and Commercial datasets. This role will involve analyzing and interpreting complex datasets, developing data-driven solutions, and ensuring the effective management and security of databases. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of data science methodologies, statistical analysis, data modeling, and database administration principles.
Responsibilities:
1. Data Analysis and Modeling:
- Conduct thorough analysis of Government and Commercial datasets to extract meaningful insights and patterns.
- Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to develop predictive models and data-driven solutions.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and define business problems that can be addressed through data analysis.
- Develop and implement data cleaning, preprocessing, and transformation techniques to ensure data accuracy and reliability.
- Identify and recommend appropriate data models and methodologies to optimize data analysis processes.
2. Database Administration:
- Design, implement, and manage secure and scalable databases to store and organize large volumes of data.
- Ensure the integrity, reliability, and performance of databases through monitoring, optimization, and maintenance activities.
- Develop and enforce data security protocols, including access controls, encryption, and backup and recovery procedures.
- Collaborate with IT teams to resolve database-related issues and provide technical support when required.
- Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in database technologies, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.
3. Data Visualization and Reporting:
- Create compelling visualizations and dashboards to effectively communicate data insights and trends to stakeholders.
- Generate regular reports and presentations summarizing key findings, trends, and recommendations.
- Work closely with business users to understand their reporting needs and develop customized solutions to meet their requirements.
4. Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, software developers, and business analysts, to drive data initiatives.
- Communicate complex technical concepts and findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Participate in knowledge sharing activities, providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Proven experience in data analysis, data modeling, and statistical analysis.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and Big Data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis and statistical modeling.
- Experience working with both Government and Commercial datasets is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of data privacy regulations, security best practices, and compliance standards.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities effectively.
