Your Role
The Data and Analytics (D&A) team focuses enterprise-wide to partner with business stakeholders to apply the power of data & analytics to deliver new insights and data-driven solutions to accelerate business outcomes. The Senior Analyst, Data Visualization & Democratization will report to the Director, Data Visualization and Democratization. In this role you will be a key member of an elite team to work with the analytics teams, data teams, and business stakeholders to accelerate data-driven transformation by designing, developing, and driving adoption of easy-to-use business user self-service access to single source of truth business insights, across all stakeholders’ enterprise-wide in Blue Shield of California, largely thorough self-serve dashboard platforms like Tableau.
This role will combine both “art” and “science” expertise to designing an entire enterprise-wide portfolio of stylistically and functionally consistent data visualization systems and interconnected dashboards that are efficient at querying the underlying data stores, responsive to user input, and of clear value to business stakeholders as measured through adoption. This role blends the well-designed visualization with data analysis and change management expertise to accelerate our data-driven transformation journey to move from “data checking decisions” to “data making decisions”.
This role is expected to partner closely with data engineers to establish/maintain single source of truth, with analytical teams to understand what insights would be most beneficial to the business, and with business stakeholders to help drive adoption of these self-service tools (largely Tableau). The successful candidate can translate the key business questions into at-a-glance answers with visual poise through application of visual best practices and knowledge of underlying data structures and query approaches.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Own a set of data visualizations that may need to be continuously evolved to increase level of sophistication and/or answer new business questions, but remain simple to use
- Partner with analytical teams and business stakeholders to understand what metrics/information would be most useful to uncovering insights and accelerate meeting business goals
- Work with Data management team under D&A to design the necessary datasets balancing pre-aggregation versus live query in terms of flexibility and response time
- Establish and adhere to both front-end design style guides and back-end data aggregation standards to drive ease of development and use
- Design, as needed, for multiple levels of seniority from business analysts to C-level executives, with a flair for extracting “stories” or “insights” from the data
- Apply world-class design skills to enable ease-of-use and simplicity; success judged through adoption/usage which this role will be responsible to track
- Stay abreast of emerging business intelligence trends, technologies, tools, and approaches
- Demonstrate the business savviness and stakeholder management skills to juggle against multiple, often competing priorities, to deliver maximum value
- Be comfortable working both top-down in terms of a specific hypothesis/questions to answer as well as bottom-up exploratory approaches
- Implement appropriate views or filters to ensure display of any sensitive data is enabled only for the targeted audiences

QUALIFICATIONS
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of data/analytics experience, with a strong focus on data storytelling & visualization
- Significant experience with business intelligence / visualization tools; Tableau desktop certification a strong plus
- Possesses excellent design skills with a bent for creating "easy to use" interfaces leveraging the full capability set of the platforms; drives adoption/usage
- Deep experience with both on-premise approaches but also visualization approaches in a Cloud environment, in particular Tableau on Snowflake in Azure
- Working knowledge of descriptive statistics (correlations, trends, distributions, etc) to be able to profile / showcase key insights from datasets; understands how to provide relevant drill-up, drill-down, filter capabilities
- Strong SQL skills and database expertise; knowledge of constructing effective queries across multiple datasets (all join types, nested queries, etc.)
- Strong written, verbal and presentation abilities; exceptionally clear communicator and influencer; can speak not only to technical audiences but also key business partners at varying levels of seniority
- Strong design skills, with a focus on usability, equity, and accessibility
Pay Range
The pay range for this role is: $ 96800.00 to $ 145200.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
