ROLE
We are seeking a talented and motivated Mid-Level Data Visualization Specialist to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data visualization, design, and analysis. They will be responsible for creating and maintaining visually engaging and insightful reports and dashboards to help our clients make data-driven decisions. The Mid-Level Data Visualization Specialist will work closely with other team members to ensure the delivery of high-quality visualizations and insights.
You will be responsible for:
- Develop, design, and maintain visually engaging and informative data visualizations, dashboards, and reports using various data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, etc.).
- Collaborate with data analysts and data scientists to understand data requirements and develop the most effective visualizations to represent complex data sets.
- Interpret business requirements and translate them into visual representations, including the use of charts, graphs, maps, and other visual elements.
- Conduct user testing to gather feedback and continuously improve visualization designs to ensure the best user experience and ease of understanding.
- Create and maintain documentation related to data visualization projects, including design specifications, data dictionaries, and user guides.
- Provide guidance and training to team members and clients on the effective use of visualizations and the interpretation of the underlying data.
- Work closely with the development team to integrate visualizations into web applications or other software solutions.
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices in data visualization.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
While the below is an ideal profile, we are looking for data and computer science professionals so the role may be able to be tailored to fit your experience if we think it might be a good fit.
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Graphic Design, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
- 3-5 years of experience in data visualization, reporting, and dashboard creation.
- Proficiency in using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, D3.js, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of data analysis, statistics, and data manipulation techniques.
- Knowledge of various chart types, data visualization best practices, and principles of effective visual storytelling.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or JavaScript, and libraries such as pandas, ggplot2, or Vega-Lite.
- Experience with web development technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) for integrating visualizations into web applications.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for aesthetics in design.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex data and concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment, including with data analysts, data scientists, and developers.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
- A strong portfolio showcasing data visualization projects and design skills.
- Knowledge of industry-specific tools and technologies is a plus (e.g., GIS tools for geospatial analysis).
- A continuous learner who stays updated on the latest data visualization trends, tools, and best practices.
