VMR Strategic Solutions is seeking a Data Scientist to analyze large amounts of raw information to find patterns that will help improve our company. We will rely on you to build data products to extract valuable business insights.
In this role, you should be highly analytical with a knack for analysis, math and statistics. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data. We also want to see a passion for machine-learning and research. Your goal will be to help our company analyze trends to make better decisions.
Duties
- The incumbent performs data analytic functions to include the application development of analytics, measures, and metrics to help foster performance towards service targets, objectives, and goals in order to influence agency public health decisions.
- Makes recommendations on best practices to improve predictive analytics, data sampling, data warehousing processes, and other uses of advanced analytics and information technology.
- Evaluates and interprets data extracts and reports from various systems assessing relevant data sources validity and reliability to meet project needs to aid stakeholders in understanding and utilizing analytical reports.
- Produces analytical reports and communicates the technical data requirements to data providers.
- Identifies trends, correlations, and causations within large datasets to provide a synopsis of emerging trends, challenges, and recommendations for change.
- Develops and implements dynamic data visualizations and interactive reporting to provide meaningful insight from the data (such as dashboards, scorecards, and graphs).
- The employee will incorporate and/or integrate health equity principles and practices in the development of IT infrastructures, algorithms, concepts, storage, retention and surveillance programs reflective in the collection, analysis and dissemination of social determinants data and factors that inform and impact public health outcomes and mission driven efforts to protect and prevent global public health threats to include the socially and economically disadvantaged/underrepresented populations.
- Develops mathematical, and/or statistical models for evaluation, identification, collection, and analysis of all data used to support assigned projects or program(s).
- Performs work involving the conceptualization of complex data research analyses and chooses specific technical methods and procedures for a single project or an entire area of investigation.
- Data to be analyzed comes from diverse sources and in diverse forms that include computerized statistical files, manual or automated program reporting systems and program files, and ad hoc information obtained from internal and external sources.
- Utilizes a variety of quantitative analyses, data research tools and techniques, and other appropriate quantitative methodologies.
- Selects the appropriate scientific data collection techniques for program analysis from numerous sources, assures the adequacy and accuracy of the data, and identifies significant factors which affect the research or investigation.
- This includes setting up the problems; conducting background investigations; collecting scientific data; displaying data for analysis; formulating mathematical expressions; and drawing conclusions
- Develops reports and presentations that will be translations of technical analyses into business applicable material, simple, concise, understandable, and convincing.
- Develops illustrations and visualizations of data that can easily be comprehended and simplified for non-technical stakeholder audiences, communicating statistical modeling results as measures of the business’s impact.
- Attends meetings to coordinate work with other organizations involved in the project, such as the developer or contractor, tester, and other analytical organizations.
- Prepares comprehensive technical reports of completed studies, assuring adequate correlation of data, integration of all pertinent considerations, and substantiation of conclusions.
Qualifications
Required education and experience:
- Individuals must possess Ph.D. or Masters with five (5) plus years of specialized experience. Degree in Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study that is appropriate for the position.
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst
- Experience in data mining
- Understanding of machine-learning and operations research
- Knowledge of R, SQL and Python; familiarity with Scala, Java or C++ is an asset
- Experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau) and data frameworks (e.g. Hadoop)
- Analytical mind and business acumen
- Strong math skills (e.g. statistics, algebra)
- Problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
