The team/department:
There are few jobs where you can make a real difference to the 40 million consumers of financial products, the 2 million people who work in the UK Financial Services industry, and the stability of our economy. The FCA has three objectives.

1. Ensuring that markets operate with integrity;
2. Promoting effective competition; and
3. Protecting consumers of financial services.
Our teams of data scientists combine cutting-edge techniques and the latest technology to generate breakthrough insights. We work closely with frontline business areas to deliver valuable insights that help us to spot harm to consumers and inspire to act. We place emphasis on curiosity and regularly experiment with new techniques and approaches alongside delivering production insights. Our analytics community organises demos and discussion sessions with figures across industry and academia.
What you will be doing:
  • Deliver projects that take our intelligence capabilities to the next level, helping us discover the information hidden in our unique datasets, using your skills to unlock insights that we can use to solve problems, improve ways of working and advance our ability to proactively identify harm.
  • Act as a key technical member of analytical projects, from the beginning stages of requirements gathering, all the way through to delivery. This role will require you to have strong analytics experience and be comfortable collaborating with project stakeholders at all levels and backgrounds
  • Review data science model, run the code refactoring and optimisation, containerisation, deployment, versioning, and monitoring of its quality
  • Test data science models, validate and run tests automation
  • Communicate with a team of data scientists, data engineers and architect, document the processes
  • Act as a mentor for junior members of the team, to help them develop their technical capabilities and ability to solve problems quickly and economically. This will include reviewing other team members’ work to ensure that it adheres to data science best practices and delivers value to the organisation.
  • Promote the use of advanced analytic capability across the FCA through engagement with stakeholders across the organisation.
The skills and experience you will have:
We are a signatory to the Government’s Disability Confident scheme. Minimum:
  • Degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science or related field.
Essential:
  • Proven experience in applying data science and machine learning techniques and methods to practical business problems.
  • Programming languages like Python, Go, Ruby or Bash, good understanding of Linux, knowledge of frameworks such as scikit-learn, Keras, PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc.
  • Ability to understand tools used by data scientist and experience with software development and test automation
  • Ability to work well with internal and external stakeholders through clear and professional communications and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of some of the following classes of methods would be beneficial: Natural Language Processing, Network Analytics, Predictive Modelling.
Desirable:
  • Ability to design and implement cloud solutions and ability to build MLOps pipelines on cloud solutions such as AWS.
  • Experience working with relational, non-relational and graph databases.
  • Experience with MLOps Frameworks like Kubeflow, MLFlow, DataRobot, Airflow etc., Experience with Docker and Kubernetes, OpenShift
  • Experience applying data science techniques in the Financial Services industry.
  • Experience in financial regulation or other regulatory areas.
  • Experience with reinforcement and/or deep learning.
  • Experience with cloud computing such as AWS and its services.

  • The salary range in London is up to £75,000 per annum plus a competitive benefits package, including a non-contributory pension
  • The salary range in Edinburgh & Leeds is up to £67,000 per annum plus a competitive benefits package, including a non-contributory pension
