Job description
As a Senior Digital Research Executive within BBC World Service, you will be delivering actionable insights across BBC World Service, helping journalists, commissioners, product managers, marketers and business development teams better understand their audiences and make data-driven decisions. You will play a key role in analysing the digital performance of BBC’s global services and contribute to deeper audience understanding through projects that marry digital analytics with qualitative, quantitative and other forms of research.
The BBC’s News Group delivers international news output and comprises of BBC World Service, BBC World News TV, BBC Monitoring and the BBC’s international online news services. Together, these services provide a focal point for viewers and listeners around the world, attracting a combined global weekly audience of over 458m. The World Service sits within this broader division, delivering journalism on TV, radio and online across the globe in 42 languages.
Main ResponsibilitiesThe role is meant for a data analytics specialist who has an appreciation of the full suite of research approaches available and can draw upon multiple methodologies to offer actionable insight to the business. The following are essential requirements of the role:
- Experience and knowledge of web and social analytics systems
- Strong quantitative analytical skills, particularly working creatively with existing data sources/large data sets.
- Turning data into a meaningful story and communicating it in an appropriate way for stakeholders.
- High perseverance, resilience, and creativity to be able to handle the pressures, challenges, and setbacks of working in global markets.
- Ability to influence stakeholders
- Open to change – responds flexibly to new challenges and keen to seek out new ways of doing things
- Provide insights which enable decision makers and creative stakeholders to make better decisions, creating value for the organisation through the improvement of existing content and services and/or the creation of new content and services.
- Analyse and interpret data from a variety of sources to assess the performance of the varying services of the BBC in a competitive context and to inform the development of future services and content.
- Work flexibly across genres and media, irrespective of area of specialism, in line with business need and to improve understanding of the wider division. The post holder moves around the division on a regular basis.
- Lead decision making at all levels of the business by providing understanding and summarising programme/genre/service performance within the BBC portfolio in the wider BBC and competitive context incorporating multi-platform performance data, where appropriate.
- Undertake quantitative and qualitative research projects and to be solely or jointly responsible for these projects, as specified, including managing project budgets.
- Develop relationships across the Audience Research team and specific organisational partners, including managing own stakeholder relationships.
