The team and role

Data science is exciting and fast-evolving, blending knowledge from a range of fields: mathematics, computer science, statistics, and engineering disciplines. Data scientists are inquisitive, and they explore and visualise data of all kinds to address complex real-worlds problems.

For our Data Science team, the purpose is simple; we want to help our customers maximise business performance and efficiency through data-driven problem-solving. We help unlock value and insight from existing data which enables organisations to make better, safer, faster evidence-based decisions.

As a Graduate at Amey, you’ll be involved in developing entirely new ways of using data to solve problems in the rail, highways infrastructure sector that we operate in.

As part of the Data Science team you will work on a variety of data analysis competencies, you will analyse real-world data to support process improvements and innovations for our clients. You’ll see your work progress from data exploration and experimentation through to real world implementation making a difference to rail, road, and the built environment across the UK.

You will work alongside the team to:

  • Help our customers use their data, to help their businesses cut costs and operate more efficiently.
  • Develop data architecture capable of supporting enterprise-scale software tools, agile modelling methodologies and large-scale data migrations.
  • Help embed technology in businesses to deliver business transformation.
  • Manage digital projects from initial concept through to delivery and benefit realisation.
  • Offer tailored digital solutions form strategy through to implementation and ongoing maintenance.

You’ll be given a ‘buddy’ and a mentor to assist you as you settle into your new role, helping answer any questions you may have, and support you in developing the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed.

On successful completion of this programme, you’ll progress to a Consultant position within Amey Consulting.

What we need from you

  • 2:1 or above in a STEM degree subject.
  • A,B,B at A-Level, or equivalent. An ‘A’ grade or above is required in Maths.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Enjoy working in a team environment, sharing ideas, and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Confidence to work under pressure, and the ability to prioritise and plan effectively.
