Role
The Community Grants Unit (the Unit) of Culture administers community grants that reinvest revenues into communities; empower local citizens and community organizations to work together; and respond to local needs. The Unit administers more than $79 million through several major grant programs and receives approximately 2,000 grant applications on an annual basis.
The Program Accounting Coordinator position directly consults and advises grant recipients regarding accounting for and reporting on grant funding received, all aspects of grant program policy and procedure, program guidelines and any specific outstanding matters in relation to the monitoring and completion of the funded projects and use of grant funds. The Unit has approximately 3,000 to 4,000 open grant files at any given time, which are being monitored by the Accounting Coordinators to ensure conditions of the grant agreement are being met.
Some of the key responsibilities include:
- Provides advice and guidance to assist community organizations meet the grant programs' financial accounting and reporting requirements.
- Reviews grant recipients' financial accounting regarding approved grant expenditures from financial general ledger documents to audited financial statements.
- Reviews and recommends grant agreement amendments based on grant recipients requests for extensions and or changes of scope.
- Drafts formal grant agreement amendments.
- Works with the Finance and Systems Manager and Director Community Grants through the grant file closure process.
- Prepare correspondence for senior and executive management.
- Provides input in the development of program policy, procedures and processes.
- Liaises with external and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
Two-year diploma in a related field plus 5 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below. Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education will be considered.
The following be considered assets:
- Experience working with financial accounting and reporting documentation
- Knowledge/experience working with grants.
- Understanding of formal grant agreements and contracts language and meaning.

Salary
$ 2,365.37– $ 3,104.50 biweekly ( $61,736 to $ 81,027/year)
Notes
- This is for 1 full-time temporary position for 12 months located in Edmonton.
- Hours of work: 36.25 hours/week, Monday to Friday 8:15 am – 4:30 pm work week.
