Job Description
We Are St Helens Borough Council

Located in the heart of the North-west close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, St Helens is a transformational Council, which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough. We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.

Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.

St Helens Borough Council has obligations as a public authority and as a data controller. The Council receive Subject Access Requests (SARs) for personal data and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests for general Council information, the timescales for response to these requests are governed by legislation in the UK GDPR, DPA 2018 and FOI 2004.

Making A Difference as a Data Protection Co-ordinator in Corporate Services Directorate

As part of the Information Governance, Complaints and Compliance (IGCC) Team you will be responsible for assisting the IGCC Manager with the management of FOIs and Data Protection compliance.

We require a Data Protection Co-ordinator who demonstrates excellent communications and organisational skills, the ability to prioritise workloads and to work in a structured manner.

The role of the Data Protection Co-ordinator is to ensure that appropriate and complete FOI responses are handled in a timely, accurate and balanced way to meet our customer’s needs and ensure compliance with FOI legislation. The role will also provide support with data protection compliance, such as recording and assessing data breaches and assisting with the review of privacy notices and information sharing agreements.

Successful candidates will possess the ability to manage the demands of the IGCC Team and will therefore be able to prioritise effectively, navigate conflicting customer demands diplomatically and maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and professionalism. You should have experience of administration, ideally in a Local Authority setting, and be competent in relation to understanding and applying regulations and guidance, including exemptions, in line with FOI legislation.

We are looking for candidates that value attention to detail and who deliver high quality work within agreed timescales. They must have the capacity to work on their own initiative, but to also be confident enough to escalate concerns where appropriate.

In line with our new ways of working, this role is hybrid and will involve working from home with occasional working in our agile hub at Atlas House in St Helens Town Centre.

Interviews will be held w/c 29 May 2023.
