Opportunity
Olympic Industries ULC is currently searching for a highly motivated and passionate Data Developer to join our team from September through December 2023. Working alongside the derivatives & data team, the Data Developer will gain hands-on experience upkeeping, designing, and implementing analytical models and software.
Responsibilities
The Data Developer is responsible for the following as well as other related duties as assigned to support the business objectives and purpose of the company:
Collaborating with the team in the design and implementation of analytical software:
- Develop API endpoints on Flask with SQL database.
- Develop dashboard UI on React with Material UI and chart libraries.
- Analyze data for various departments and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
Building and upkeeping analytical models to provide a dynamic analysis of the business:
- Perform code optimization in existing data projects.
- Create statistical and forecasting models on complex inventory and trading data.
- Create and improve automation processes for routine data processing tasks.
- Testing and debugging programs.
Position Requirements
To be successful as a Data Developer, an individual must be committed to developing, maintaining, and demonstrating the following:
Education and Experience
- Working towards a degree or diploma in a related program such as Computer Science, Statistics, and Software/Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in scripting languages, preferably Python.
- Experience in web frameworks such as Node, Django and/or Flask.
- Experience or knowledge in writing SQL queries and data pipeline.
- Experience or knowledge in basic JavaScript, CSS, HTML, or frontend development.
- Experience or knowledge in react.js, chart.js, recharts, and/or jQuery.js.
- Basic understanding or interests in learning Material UI and Bootstrap.
- Familiarity with good practices, programming patterns, and algorithm complexities.
- Experience or knowledge in machine learning, data mining, statistical modelling and forecasting considered an asset.

- Proven ability to complete work in a timely manner with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
- Good verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
- Ability to use strong judgement in analyzing, troubleshooting, and evaluating problems.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks based on communicated expectations.
- A high degree of initiative, work ethic, integrity, and honesty.
- Ability to listen and understand instructions and work independently or with others to complete tasks.
- Ability to act with good judgement and discretion: keeping sensitive business data secure.
- Desire and capacity to acquire new knowledge and develop new skills, specifically in the commodities trading industry.
- Ability to conduct research into systems issues as required.
- High-energy with an entrepreneurial spirit.
Compensation
- $50K-55K per annum.
- Hybrid role.
