About the role
We are looking for a Junior Data Engineer to join our agile team and help us develop and maintain applications that support all areas of how we operate, from sales, logistics, finance and everything in between. For this role we are going to be looking for someone who perhaps has limited or no experience, we will mentor and train you in software engineering and data disciplines to become the best version of yourself you can be.
You can expect to use technologies including MSSQL, SSRS, SSIS, Power BI, Node.js, JavaScript We also use React and a host of other technologies across our technical disciplines which you can learn if you would like. The work is both technical and creative in nature, requiring a blend of different approaches and problem solving. We embrace a DevOps philosophy, using tools such as GitLab, Kubernetes, Docker and Rancher, all running in a hybrid on-prem/AWS environment which we are in the process of migrating to be fully cloud-based.
You will get involved across the full lifecycle of our projects - design, implementation, testing, release, support and ongoing enhancements. You will also have a real voice to contribute your ideas and innovation to create growth and opportunity within the business.
We are open-minded and forward-looking, evaluating the best tool or technology for the job, and sharing insights on new tech, approaches or specific code weve seen. Were all enthusiastic and passionate about the field we work in!
About you
Youll be a competent and self-motivated person, and whilst youll still have much to learn, youll be able to demonstrate your initiative and take a lead on your development and learning; any retail experience would be of interest.
What really matters is your ability to understand concepts quickly, work with fresh ideas in an agile environment, contribute and collaborate with others.
Were looking for someone thats not just passionate about technology, but also our purpose in delivering an amazing customer experience, someone who is hungry to learn with us, and keen to share your findings where you can.
You will have a logical mind and good attention to detail, an interest in solving problems and seeing through a solution to its completion.
As a good communicator, you'll be keen to get involved in discussions and debates and express your own views.
Whenever you see room for improvement you won't be afraid to speak up, and you'll readily ask our in-house team of experts any questions, hit Google/StackOverflow or look at training courses if you need to develop a skill further. You will have your ear to the ground of the development community, keeping abreast of whats going on.
