The Role: Data Engineer

Purpose:

Designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers the organization's data analytics and business intelligence systems. The role requires a combination of technical skills and business acumen to ensure that data is accessible, reliable, and secure.

Accountabilities:

  • Design and build scalable data pipelines to collect, process, and store data from a variety of sources.
  • Implement data quality control processes to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop and maintain data storage systems, including databases and our data platform, to support ABPs analytics needs.
  • Collaborate with data analysts, and business stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide solutions to support their use cases.
  • Develop and maintain data security and privacy protocols to ensure the confidentiality and protection of sensitive information.
  • Implement and maintain data backup and recovery procedures to ensure business continuity in the event of a disaster.
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies and trends in the data engineering field and recommend improvements to the data infrastructure.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications, Essential:

  • Strong knowledge of SQL and experience with database systems, particularly Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with data integration technologies such as SSIS and ideally ADF/Synapse Pipelines.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with data lake technologies and modern data warehousing.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Have a Keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for staying up-to-date with new technologies and trends in the data engineering field.
  • Inquisitive mind, endless curiosity and passion for learning about customers, industries and new approaches to doing things. How end users perform their jobs. Industry challenges and solutions

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Port or Logistics industry
  • Knowledge of alternative cloud computing platforms such as AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with alternative data storage systems such as Hadoop, HDFS, and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with data processing technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Flink, and Apache Storm.

Ideal

  • Knowledge of Power BI, Power Query and DAX.
  • Experience working with ABP technologies such as Azure, SAP, MS 365
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a data engineering role or equivalent developer role
  • Experience of working in Shipping and Cargo handling, Oil and Gas and Speciality Trade Contract Handling is a preference
