Job Description

Primary Tasks

Hardware Planning

  • Coordinate and plan placement of all hardware installed in the data centre
  • Ensure compliance with hardware specification requirements including density management, installation policies and best practices for hardware
  • Responsible for grid location mapping
  • Ensure density mapping per pre-defined standards
  • Provide management reporting as required
  • Rack design
  • Ensure hot/cold aisle containment and/or placement ensuring efficient utilization of cooling capacity

Data Centre Workload Placement (WLP) Governance

  • Responsible for WLP Request lifecycle management
  • Ensure standard adherence to client WLP process
  • Act as an operational Interface to various stakeholders
  • Responsible for grid location mapping
  • Ensure density mapping per pre-defined standards
  • Provide management reporting as required
  • Ensure compliance with hardware specification requirements including density management, installation policies and best practices for hardware
  • Asset Management
  • Ensure asset management is performed to maintain client inventory tools and databases
  • Perform Capacity Modeling
  • Ensure capacity reports are updated
  • Project Management
  • Represent client Data Centre Facilities team on all planning meetings
  • Maintain ownership and end to end responsibility of scheduling and coordinating all onsite activates according to the project plan
  • Set expectations regarding timelines for the facilities activities
  • Update reports and tracking templates related to the projects

Service Management

  • Perform incident, problem, change functions in client designated Service Management system
  • Ensure compliance to client Service Management system for all scheduled activities
  • Ensure time reporting in client designated change systems as required.

Data Centre Hardware Activities

  • Assist with daily data centre hardware support activities
  • Installation and removal of hardware
  • Trouble shooting of cabling (Copper and Fiber)
  • Trouble shooting hardware failures
  • Device Validation
  • Asset Management functions

Media functions

  • Filing and Cataloging of media
  • Scanning media
  • Shipping/Receiving of media and peripherals
  • Other basic media functions

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years physical onsite Data Centre experience supporting the Data Centre equipment and/or infrastructure (Power, Space, Cooling, Equipment)
  • Ability to evaluate all manufacturers’ specifications for equipment new/old in order to assign placement in the Data Centre
  • Knowledge of basic electrical requirements and conversions (i.e. Kilowatts, Amps, phases, etc.)
  • Provide review for proposed solutions to validate requirements and identify potential faults/single points of failure
  • Experience working in a Structured ITIL and or ISO environment utilizing Problem, Change, and Incident disciplines
  • Quickly learn, adapt, and retain Data Centre and Client specific information
  • Great team work capabilities
  • Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously
  • Scheduling flexibility to complete assigned migrations/projects
  • Excellent communication and written skills
  • Proficient in MS-Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Project
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Capability to spend extended durations standing or walking
  • Any Technical or PMP Certifications
  • Security clearance may be required to be obtained if working in cleared areas
