Job description
Data and Modelling Analyst
About the Role
Data and Modelling Analyst - Warwick (hybrid working)
The interconnectors within the NGV portfolio make money primarily by auctioning capacity between interconnected markets. The clearing price achieved is a function of the difference (or arbitrage) between prices in those markets. We are gaining more flexibility around the dates, products and volumes we auction and want to set auction strategies to maximise revenues while providing a stable return. We also need to be able estimate our revenues for business planning purposes, regularly review performance and adapt our strategies within year.
To support this, we are developing a suite of models to help us forecast and optimise our auction revenues. You will be responsible for ensuring that these models are underpinned by robust data and will gather further sources of data to improve our capabilities.
What you'll be getting up to
- Performing complex analysis on multiple data sets to help determine the optimal auction strategy.
- Ensure data feeding our models and processes is complete, robust, up-to-date and cleansed.
- Constant evaluation and maintenance of existing data systems that underpin the analysis behind the short-to-medium term commercial decision-making process, capturing required enhancements.
- Assisting the Quantitative Analysis Manager and Senior Modelling Analysts in refining the tools and systems on an ongoing basis.
- Gathering requirements for improvements and liaising with data and database owners to deliver enhancements.
About You
- Experience of handling significant quantities of data, knowledge of data handling techniques, experience of using databases, statistics and data mining
- Experience in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and project partners.
- Experience of developing, implementing, running and maintaining models and tools to meet business requirements.
- Highly analytical and quantitative – demonstrated ability to critically review modelled inputs and outputs.
- Comfortable with aiding the design and running of a suite of complex models and tools based on business requirements.
- Proficiency with of VBA, R, SQL and Python (note: evidence of this may be sought at interview).
- Advanced level of expertise with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Matillion would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of GB and EU electricity industry structures, policies and regulations, market fundamentals and recent trends is desirable.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid Interconnectors, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
What's in it for you?
- A competitive salary of £35,000 - £45,000– dependant on experience
- 25 days annual leave (increasing to 26 after two years’ service) plus eight statutory days
- The option to buy additional or sell holiday days
- Generous contributory pension scheme - we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
- Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – so long as it’s relevant to your role.
- Access to flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
- Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days).
