What is the purpose of this job?
We’re looking for a Data Analyst to join the Data & Analytics team to support us in identifying and monitoring fraudulent retailing activity across the rail network. You’ll be responsible for taking data from a wide variety of source systems and delivering analysis which enables actionable insight in reducing fraud and support revenue recovery.
The D&A team works across different projects and programmes to support the business and train operating companies to gain maximum value from data. You’ll receive career coaching and line management support from the D&A team, with day-to-day management being given by the project/programme team you’re working in. Examples include the Railcard and Smart Ticketing which will use your inputs in shaping solutions & mitigations to reduce fraudulent activity.
What can I expect to do in this job?
This isn’t an exhaustive list, but things you can expect to be involved with include:
- Utilise smart ticketing data to identify patterns within large datasets and surface fraudulent activity.
- Support the development of industry wide counter fraud KPIs that identify baselines and support measuring the success of counter fraud initiatives.
- Enhance and refine existing counter fraud content ensuring it remains relevant using stakeholder feedback.
- Produce self-service dashboards enabling less technical stakeholders to explore, interact and draw conclusions from your content.
- Proactively present recommendations and analysis to internal colleagues and external stakeholders using appropriate presentation methods.
What experience, skills and knowledge do I need?
The candidate should have experience writing complex SQL queries and building interactive dashboards using Tableau. They should have proven experience working and querying large, complex, and messy data sets and possess strong organisation skills with an ability to work flexibly and independently across several workstreams.
Being an excellent communicator is essential for the role. The way you deliver and communicate your findings will influence how your recommendations and findings are adopted by the industry. We would expect the candidate to be confident and articulate and able to adapt communication styles to their audience.
