Data Scientist
Scope:
Egg Farmers of Canada are presently seeking a Data Analyst/Scientist to join our Agricultural Policy and Costing team. Reporting to the Manager of Agricultural Policy and Costing, the primary responsibilities include delivering accurate, comprehensive and timely analysis and reports pertaining to the Canadian egg industry, which will be used to inform decision-making within our organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in the four-phase study of the Cost of Production (COP), conducted on behalf of EFC by an external consultant, including: project planning and methodological outline, fieldwork, assessment of the initial study results, and the implementation and update of the final study results between studies.
- Resolve issues arising during the COP study, or in the COP updates by conducting research and proposing solutions on various topics such as: cost components, costing and valuation methods; and, indexing methodologies.
- Consistently and accurately generate and distribute reports regarding the egg industry to internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop reports that accurately assess and support communications with internal and external stakeholders about the egg industry.
- Analyze and assess the accuracy and suitability of data pertaining to the egg industry for COP purposes, Board materials, as well as internal and external requests.
- Verify and update data published on the Market Information (MI) section of EFC’s website and provide support in future developments of the MI section (testing, documenting).
- Communicate with internal and external parties to assess and coordinate responses to information requests pertaining to the COP or data published on the Market Information section of EFC’s website
Qualifications and Skills:
Candidates will ideally have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field (Statistics, Economics or Business), plus two to four years of relevant work experience. A Master’s degree in a relevant field, combined with relevant work experience would be an asset. Additional skills or experience required include:
- Advanced analytical and computer skills, including in-depth knowledge of MS Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas) for the purpose of performing data analysis
- Demonstrated ability to present economic concepts or complex analysis to a non-technical audience (both verbally and in writing)
- Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Highly motivated and engaged to work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with various groups of stakeholders
The following qualifications would be considered assets:
- Advanced knowledge and experience with data analysis tools and techniques
- Experience in performing mathematical analysis such as regressions, correlations, time series analysis; and presenting the results objectively and concisely to a broad audience
- Knowledge of the egg industry or agri-food sectors and farm economics
- Knowledge of Machine Learning
- Knowledge of Tableau
- Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in French
