Position Summary
Position will oversee the analytics, predictive modeling, and strategic data-informed insights for Enrollment Management, using analytic products to enhance CMU’s enrollment and admission strategies in the rapidly changing higher education landscape. To achieve this, this individual will be responsible for developing models to aid in the prediction of student behaviors; managing analytic products and reports related to enrollment management; coordinating and facilitating meetings with business process owners and high-level administrators to gather requirements around the needs of the users as well as presenting findings. This position is integral in the decision making of Enrollment Management as we approach demographic shifts in a rapidly changing higher education market.
Core Responsibilities & Duties
- Data curation, visualization & reporting: Conduct in-depth data exploration and research for data-informed decision support and process improvement in Enrollment Management. Develop and maintain executive dashboards, respond to ad hoc requests. Responsible for all aspects of request cycle including requirements gathering, curation, extraction, manipulation/wrangling, validation, presentation, and interpretation.
- Scenario planning & forecasting: Develop, maintain, and review all short- and long-term university enrollment projection models, course enrollment models and incoming class predictive analytics Communicate results to EM leadership and strategic campus partners.
- Insights & presentations: Produce and deliver presentation materials, identify key insights, context, and national benchmarks for dissemination at the highest levels of the organization. Develop and curate talking points for Vice Provost of Enrollment Management.
- Collaboration: Lead and participate in campus-wide cross-functional teams to develop new metrics, tools, reports, dashboards, and research projects that are intended to expand data-informed decision-making and efficiencies related to EM across campus. Serve as conduit between highly technical teams and executive leadership by synthesizing and relaying key findings from complex research results to influence university policy and strategy. Collaborate with institutional research colleagues and other campus partners to ensure enrollment data analysis and reporting definitions and standards are consistent across the university.
- Leadership: Serve on the department’s leadership team. Meet regularly with EM Leadership and Vice Provosts for various data needs related to strategic initiatives. Coach associate analysts.
Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Ed Research, Ed Measurement, Statistics, Psychometrics, Economics, Data Analytics, Quantitative Measurement, Statistics, Computer Science or related field.
- Masters preferred
- 8+ years of demonstrated research or data analysis/BI experience, preferably in the field of enrollment management or admissions including predictive modeling, data visualization, reporting, data wrangling, extracting and cleaning
- Ability to think critically and analytically, work independently and manage multiple projects
- Proficiency with BI software such as Tableau, SAS, Cognos, Excel, etc. Experience using SQL to query data from relational databases or data lakes preferred.
- Ability to analyze, interpret and present data for various audiences with a diverse range of data literacy
- Forecasting and scenario planning experience, ability to creatively problem solve to determine range of future possibilities
- Knowledge of external public datasets related to higher education and enrollment management such as National Clearinghouse, IPEDS, College Board, Encoura/ACT, US Census, American Communities Survey
