CSE unit delivers and deploys end-to-end cyber and security capabilities across BT, as platform owners. Our mission is to build the most secure network and services, a key brand differentiator for BT and our other brands, EE, Plusnet and Openreach. We aim to put BT on security ‘gartner’ alike global lead.
We are responsible for keeping BT and EE, globally, available during cyber attack, and operating various network and real-time capabilities for attack detection, prevention and analysis. We defend the business, and in support of that, we also deploy new capabilities, ensure those capabilities are operational, have adequate capacity, and maintain their visibility/reach.

The Cyber DevOps professional will be responsible for design, build and test of automation of cyber security capabilities in the CSE unit, guided by the Cyber DevOps lead and Cyber Design Authority (DA).
Our Hybrid working model means you will work 3 days per week in the office and 2 days in the location of your choice. This role can be based in Ipswich, Glasgow or Manchester.
You'll have the following responsibilities
In this role you will design, build and test of automation of cyber security capabilities, guided by Cybersecurity DevOps lead and using capability specific requirements as set by the design authority. You will translate cyber and security requirements for the development area working on. You will also work as part of the team when required for cyber response and defence and contribute under guidance to the review of the cyber capabilities based on analysis and attack behaviour change, ensuring the latest threats are detected and proactively acted on.

In addition, you’ll aid and design solutions for the automated deployment of the new cyber protection infrastructure, and contribute to the activities till operationally live and accepted into service, if required as part of the project working on. You will also work as part of the wider team, to drive automation and data mining where possible to link network and information data as such that create one source and own view of our cyber status and capability

Additional responsibilities include:
  • To continually develop professional Cybersecurity skills and DevOps and awareness, to always remain ahead of our attackers, and develop the skills of others in the team
  • Contribute to the build of Cybersecurity DevOps standards, as guided by Cybersecurity DevOps lead.
  • Contribute and proactively engage on continuous improvement activities within the team
  • Aim to be/become an expert in at least one Cyber technology, as you grow on the role.
  • Where required to provide 2nd line support to maintain service availability during cyber attack


The opportunity for 24/7 on-call (if needed and able to support). We are currently growing the team, and in the transition stage, there is opportunity for on-call, if desired
You'll have the following skills and experience
Essential:


  • A general technologist, with a genuine demonstrable interest in both Cybersecurity DevOps
  • Have familiarity with DevOps and Agile methodologies
  • Be comfortable with hands on scripting and related development activities
  • An aptitude for autonomous learning as required by the demands of the business
  • Basic understanding of network and cloud technologies
  • Proven problem-solving abilities
  • Assertiveness, and the ability to drive through change
  • Excellent team working skills including the ability to work effectively within a geographically disparate team
Advantageous:

  • Have experience working in a Cybersecurity environment providing business critical security solutions
  • Have knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Ansible, scripting languages like Python and CI/CD tools like Jenkins.
  • Have experience in one of more of these Cybersecurity technologies:
o Privliged Access Management
o Web Application Firewalls
o Linux and Windows Administration
o Virtualisation technology
o Host based security products (threat detection, micro segmentation)
o Vulnerability and Compliance Management
o SIEM technology
o DDoS protection
o Firewalls
o Proxies
  • Knowledge of security frameworks
Experience
  • Likely to have relevant, contemporary and industry recognised qualifications appropriate to the specific function
  • Likely to have a degree qualification (engineering/science) or has served a technical apprenticeship and/or obtained NVQ and/or further education technical qualifications (i.e. HND)
  • Relevant professional experience
