At a glance
The Credit Risk Analyst is positioned in Risk department and reports to the Head of Credit Risk.
The department is responsible for analysis of the credit risks in the portfolio and for translating the findings into possible changes to policies and processes geared to the optimisation of risk and return, while taking the client's interests into account. The department also provides related management information. The department assesses and monitors credit risks associated with commercial clients. The department liaises with Operational Risk for sharing knowledge and to stimulate risk awareness.
Your job
The Credit Risk Analyst has the following responsibilities:
- Responsible for making an independent assessment of the risk proposition presented, analysing, assessing and authorising funding proposals, as well as advising colleagues on lending-related issues and coordinating lending process activities whilst aligning with group credit policy.
- Work in close cooperation with Business Development Managers, Relationship Managers and Asset
- Management to assess the proposed funding requirement, the client’s credit worthiness and value of the underlying assets.
- The role holder must be able to assume delegated decision powers. Delegated credit underwriting decision authority is intuit personae by nature. It is not related to (hay) grade level, but is conferred after approval by the relevant approval authority and can be revoked by the delegating hierarchy without notice.
Credit analysis
- Analyses and interprets financial documentation and information, thus forming a picture of the client's operations and market circumstances, or of the client's earnings and equity situation and the client's ability to meet its financial obligations in the future. Assesses whether the size and make-up of the proposed facilities are consistent with the client's requirements and/or whether the securities provided and conditions applied are sufficient to cover the risk involved. Where necessary, consults specialist departments and bodies regarding such matters. Establishes whether each credit proposal satisfies the authorisation criteria applicable on the basis of ABF credit policy.
Credit advices
- Discusses provisional analysis outcomes with the proposal's author and, where necessary, with the people responsible for authorisation. Where appropriate, asks for revised conditions and/or for additional securities, or advises on the scope for arriving at a finance construction that is suitable for all parties. Advises Line
- Managers and Relationship Managers on handling complex items that require additional attention. Comments on proposals, explains positions taken and advises on possible finance constructions. In complex cases, suggests alternative financing solutions. The before mentioned advices could be given in different phases, pre-wash, final proposals and reviews.
- Approval of credit proposals - Authorises credit proposals within the given individual authorisation level. Decisions should be consistent and, in line with the credit policies and risk appetite, understandable and feasible for the Relationship and Business Development Managers.
Asset analysis
- Review and analysis of Risk Factor statistics and reports. Review and analysis of Asset collateral value. Review and analysis of unsatisfactory and poor audit reports and commenting on sufficiency of mitigating actions taken by Asset Management. Review and analysis of Client Debtor and supplier contracts, and recommending / approving funding structures based on the outcome of the same.

ABN AMRO UK is part of the Corporate Banking business line and operates the following businesses in the UK:
- Corporate and Institutional Banking which includes Corporate Banking, Clearing, Global Markets - Sales & Trading and Financial Institutions
- Commercial Banking which includes Asset Based Finance and International Desk, which provides transactional banking services
Our business lines are supported by a number of functions such as Risk, Compliance, Legal, IT, Finance (Including Tax), Business Management and Human Resources. We currently employ approx. 380 people in the UK.
Your profile
- Proven financial industry working experience;
- Knowledge of commercial finance market and products and activities;
- Experience in structuring of deals;
- Ability to interpret financial statements;
- Advanced understanding of financial ratios and business principles and strong analytical skills with an ability to question assumptions;
- Advanced knowledge of credit risk analysis methodologies;
- Experience of assessing sustainability and other environmental and social risks would be beneficial;
- Experience of working with Risk Factor would be beneficial;
- Highly motivated and ambitious, with high energy levels and ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively;
- Eagerness to learn and self-develop;
- Solution driven and can-do mentality;
- Good / strong Risk knowledge;
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal Stakeholders;
- Ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and within a team
